This position is assigned to the South-Central Regional Maintenance Yard and is located in Asheboro, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance tasks and repairs, ensuring that assigned systems within Adult Correction facilities and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.

This position is required to perform at the Journeyman Level in the General Construction/Carpentry Trades and be proficient at the Journeyman level in at least one another trade such as, Fabrication and Welding, HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical. This position will be required to perform general construction tasks such as Metal Stud Framing, Drywall installation and finishing, Hollow Metal Component Installation, Finish Hardware installation, concreate forming and finishing, Flooring renovations, roofing renovations, vinyl siding installation, suspended ceiling installation, painting, and Masonry. This position may also be required to perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC Systems, perform Electrical repairs to lighting and building wiring, plumbing repairs to potable and wastewater drainage systems.

This position is required to supervise semi-skilled and unskilled inmate labor work force that assists with the completion of tasks. Must have a valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 30 days of hire. This position must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders. This position is also required to be proficient with using a computer.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

About the Department of Adult Correction (DAC)

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, the Division of Community Supervision, and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of Building Design and Systems.

  • Thorough knowledge of new construction and or building renovation practices.

  • Demonstrated experience with the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the construction, demolition, and repair of buildings, general maintenance, equipment, tools and machinery.

Management Preferences:

  • Ability to read, comprehend and understand blueprints, drawings and schematics.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification:

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F
