Salary Grade: NC09

Recruitment Salary: $38,516 - $50,000

This is a range. Selected candidate's salary will be determined within this range based on qualifications, equity, and funding at the time of hire.

Primary Purpose of this Position:

The North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Maintenance/Construction Technician III. This position carries out the facility maintenance programs to include major and minor repairs, maintenance of all equipment, and operation of maintenance areas and water systems (life support systems).

Daily Duties include:

  • Performs work in the following trades: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC/refrigeration, drywall finishing/repair, roofing/siding installation, or metal fabrication/welding.

  • Conducts routine housekeeping tasks, maintenance of buildings and facilities, and grounds maintenance.

  • May conduct orientation, training, and assign tasks for permanent and seasonal staff in facilities maintenance, grounds/trails construction programs and conducts hazard analysis.

  • Works independently in performing assigned tasks but refers unusual work problems to a supervisor for consideration and final determination.

  • Work may involve the supervision of employees engaged in semiskilled or unskilled work.

  • Work is reviewed through personal inspection and is evaluated for the effective and efficient utilization of materials, equipment, and labor, and for compliance with instructions.

  • Perform other general maintenance duties as required.

  • Perform all tasks using all known safety standards and guidelines.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.

  • Weekend and holiday work will be required.

  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid NC driver's license.

  • Experience with methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.

  • Experience with performing Maintenance Construction Technician III level trades in at least two of the following trades: Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC, Refrigeration, Welding or Fluid pump operations (life support systems).

  • Experience with operating common types of machine shop or woodworking power equipment.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas;

The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is located in Manteo, NC, nine miles from the Atlantic coastline in Nags Head. The 61,000 square-foot facility is sited on 16 acres overlooking the Croatan Sound and houses over 2,200 animals. More than 280,000 guests visit the aquarium each year to see a large array of sharks, learn about sea turtle conservation, participate in a variety of programs, enjoy the beauty of the area, and learn why North Carolina's waterways are so special.
