What are the primary duties and responsibilities?

Cleaning and Sanitizing:

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.

Trash Removal:

  • Empty waste receptacles and dispose of trash.

  • Sort and recycle materials according to school policies.

Surface Maintenance:

  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.

  • Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.

Floor Care:

  • Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.

  • Shampoo carpets and rugs.

Restocking Supplies:

  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries.

  • Inform supervisors of any supply needs or equipment malfunctions.

Maintenance Tasks:

  • Report maintenance issues, damages, and needed repairs promptly.

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fixing minor plumbing issues.

Event Support:

  • Assist with set-up and clean-up for special events, meetings, and activities.

  • Arrange furniture and equipment as needed.

Safety and Security:

  • Monitor and report safety hazards and security concerns.

  • Ensure that exits are clear and accessible.

Seasonal Duties:

  • Perform seasonal tasks, such as snow removal and salting during winter.

  • Assist with landscaping duties during warmer months.

Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with other custodial staff to ensure comprehensive coverage.

  • Communicate effectively with school staff and administrators.

Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.

  • Follow school policies and procedures related to custodial tasks.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: mandated reporter training, a physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.

  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintenance.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
