Responsibilities

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the institution buildings and structures a federal correctional facility.

Supervises and trains inmate workers in various phases associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures, grounds, fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, cement work, painting, welding, roofing, and other related trades.

Responsible for design and development of plans, specifications and blueprint drawings.

Installs and maintains pneumatic and hydraulic equipment found in an industrial setting and interprets electrical, electronic and hydraulic schematics; pneumatic controls, blueprints, wiring codes and trade formulas.

Repairs and provides maintenance of a variety of existing structures, equipment and systems, as well as the completion of specified phases of new construction.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Applicants must have had sufficient training and experience to show their ability to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications will be determined by comparing your application to the responses to the Applicant Assessment Questions against the guidelines found in the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, WS-4749 Series.

To qualify for this position, you MUST meet both the Barely Acceptable level on both screen-out element (Ability to Supervise) and (Aptitude for work with Prisoners); receive at least one half of the total possible points; AND you must furnish detailed information on your resume to support your assessment responses to demonstrate that you clearly possess the experience and skills to successfully perform the duties of this position at the journeyman level. Failure to specifically identify skills equivalent to a journeyman in this field may result in your score being lowered or in being found ineligible for this vacancy.

This position is part of a gas Journey Gas Worker program with on the job training, and is open to all applicants who are interested in learning more about natural gas distribution. Our Journey Gas Worker Program is a structured 12-18 month training program designed to provide new field employees with sufficient training and on-the-job work experience to prepare the employee to properly and safely complete their job duties. The program consists of gas distribution, field service, and gas operations while focusing on safety, including excavation, fire extinguishers, hazard communication, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment training, and safe vehicle operation. Functions of this job will include, but are not limited to: Safely operating company equipment Ability to perform general construction labor related to installation of main lines, service renewals, and line replacement Troubleshooting and investigating gas leaks First responder to leaks - reacting immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others Examining and inspecting gas appliances and performing re-lights Accurately communicating company policies and procedures and assisting customers with inquiries while on site What we are seeking: We desire someone who reflects the ONE Gas company values and culture. Position Requirements: Required experience: The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a class A CDL or the ability to obtain a class A CDL during the 180-day probationary period. Candidates must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the job and operate within a short time frame as needed. Must be able to recognize consequences of erroneous actions, concentrate on tasks, and apply procedures. The successful candidate must have the ability to process information in an organized, timely and accurate manner. The successful candidate must have the ability to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime in emergency situations.
