Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS:

The purpose of the class is to assist in the maintenance of City facilities. The class is responsible for maintenance of streets and roads, grounds, water and sewer facilities, and related maintenance tasks. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Inspects and maintains streets and roadways, by repairing, cleaning, painting, installing/ repairing signs, repairing cave-ins and drains, and other related maintenance tasks.

Performs routine landscaping maintenance such as trimming trees, hedges, bushes and mowing lawns.

Drives maintenance fleet vehicle.

Used as small crew leaders.

Guides maintenance workers to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.

Operates a variety of powered and hand operated machinery and equipment to facilitate maintenance and repair of public facilities.

Performs related tasks as necessary.

Requires handling or using machines, tools, or equipment that require brief instructions or experience such as hand and power tools, buffers, floor polishers, vacuum sweepers, outdoor hand-held power equipment, and small mowers.

Requires performing basic addition and subtraction, change or measuring.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Valid Texas Driver's License.

Requires over three months and up to and including six months.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

The job may risk exposure to bright/ dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/ or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, fumes and or noxious odors, traffic and moving machinery.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking.

The Maintenance Worker I is responsible for performing maintenance of streets and roadways, right of way, grounds, pump and valve stations, by repairing cleaning, painting and repairing cave-ins, drains and other related maintenance tasks. This might include, but not limited to, drywall repair, painting, installation of fixtures, pavement hot and cold patches, street signs and pavement markings. It also involves cleaning, washing, moping, sweeping, vacuuming, re-stocking supplies, etc. * Maintains streets and roadways free of trash, debris, and FOD (foreign object damage) * Thoroughly inspects and performs daily equipment and tool inspections; reporting mechanical defects, needed repairs, and damage upon daily inspection. * Complies with all State and local laws; Departmental policies, safety rules, and procedures. * Reports hazardous and dangerous conditions in and around the facility, including incidents/accidents immediately. * Communicates professionally and responsibly. * Is able to work in groups, and is a good team player. * Operates had and power tools such as trimmers, vacuum sweepers, outdoor hand held power equipment and mowers. * Performs other related work as required. MINIMUM EDUCATION: * Requires High School diploma or GED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * Requires a minimum of 6 months of work related experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES: * Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license, or possess the ability to obtain a TXDL as required by State Law (no later than 30 days from job offer and acceptance). * Ability to pass a personal, criminal and employment background check. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of energy frequently to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
