Major Functions

The County of Volusia is seeking a Maintenance Worker I for the Ocean Center. This position is located in Daytona Beach, Florida and will be responsible for light and heavy manual laboring details in a wide variety of tasks to include preparation and tearing down of events held at the Ocean Center.

Note: Candidate must be willing to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Illustrative Duties

  • Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks and vans.

  • Moves and aids in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects.

  • Performs scheduled housekeeping duties throughout the facility and area grounds.

  • May be required to move furniture.

  • Performs minor repairs under close supervision such as changing lights and unstopping toilets.

  • Washes and cleans vehicles and equipment as required.

  • Keeps restrooms and locker rooms supplied with necessary papers, soaps, and towels.

  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and showers areas.

  • Picks up and delivers parts and supplies as directed.

  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.

  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.

  • Responds to emergency situations.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education (or training) and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Having met the minimum requirements the preferred candidate will have at least one (1) year of experience with setting up and tearing down events.

  • Able to perform routine unskilled manual work.

  • Able to read and write English.

  • Able to follow oral instructions.

  • Able to work under stressful situations.

  • Able to interact effectively with others.

  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based on operational needs.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands: Able to see, talk, and hear. Visual acuity to operate forklifts and other machines. Peripheral vision. Able to pull, push, lift, carry 50 pounds, grasp, handle, climb, balance, reach overhead, bend, stoop. Able to traverse uneven, wet or broken terrain.

Environmental Demands: Generally inside work. Must be able to tolerate inclement weather including but not limited to heat, humidity, wind, cold. May require exposure to chemicals, dust, insects, noise, fumes and confined areas.

Mental Demands: Able to read and comprehend safety instructions, procedures, memos, and written directions. Able to write simple sentences relaying information. Able to perform basic math such as addition and subtraction.

This is a Part-Time (17 - 20 hours per week, days may vary). This position is located in Osteen, Florida, and will be responsible for unskilled manual labor to include cleaning brush from roadside, sweeping walks, removing refuse and paper from grounds, as well as, cutting, trimming, watering, and fertilizing lawn and bushes. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have at least one (1) year of experience in maintaining a park, operating professional lawn maintenance equipment and facility maintenance experience. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.) * Clears brush from roadside. Sweeps walks. Removes refuse and paper from grounds. Mows, trims & edges turf and maintains landscapes and park fixtures and equipment. * Facilitates set up and tear down of special events and may be required to work events. * May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs. * Attends work on a regular and consistent basis. * Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances. * Responds to emergency situations. * Performs other duties as required.
