Maintenance Worker I

The City of Norfolk's Department of General Services - Parking is currently looking to hire a Maintenance Worker I to assist in maintaining the aesthetics and operability of city parking facilities. Essential Function:

• This is manual labor work in the upkeep and maintenance of the city parking facilities. Work involves performing general maintenance and light-construction in parking, lots, garages, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Daily cleans assigned areas; sweeps floors, dumps trashcans; washes windows and mirrors; and scrubs restrooms.

• Cleans walkways and areas around buildings.

• Sweeps, vacuums, and spot cleans surfaces as necessary.

• Must be able to interact in a friendly and helpful manner with other employees, the public, staff, and others.

• Must be able to stand/walk for periods up to 8 hours; bend; stoop; and climb ladders, and stairs.

• Must be able to move industrial size mops and cleaning equipment and be able to lift equipment, materials, and supplies up to 60 pounds.

• Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to follow instructions both orally and in writing.

• Must be able to read and follow work schedules.

• Requires full range of hearing, peripheral and night vision, and color/depth perception.

• May require regular exposure to inclement and severe weather conditions.

Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.

No experience required.

• Valid Driver's License preferred, not required.

Work Schedule:

• Day Shift Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:30pm schedule

• Day Shift Mon-Fri 12:00pm-8:30pm schedule

• Variable schedule

• Occasional overtime

• Scheduled rotation

• Rotation as needed

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
