The Fish and Wildlife Service Experienced Services Program was established to
create a unique partnership to help solve the workforce issues facing government
agencies. The Fish and Wildlife ESP connects experienced workers (age 55+) to
the Fish and Wildlife Service to provide scientific, technical, and
administrative services in support of the Fish and Wildlife Service priority
multiple-use related programs and authorities. The experienced workers
participating in the Program are referred to as Enrollee and are not employees
of FWS or National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). NEW
Solutions is the ESP Non-governmental organization (NGO) responsible for
administrative aspects of the Program, and the Enrollees work under Fish and
Wildlife Service direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out the Fish
and Wildlife Service mission. Fish and Wildlife Service ESP Enrollees benefit
from the opportunity to keep technical skills current, to access new training
opportunities, to engage in gainful project-based positions, and to undertake
meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the
environment, the national economy and their own financial security. Background
security investigation may be required prior to start date. Location, hours and
hourly pay are noted in this position description. FWS ESP positions are meant
to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded
for approximately 1500 hours at 29 hours per week. (this is subject to change
based on budget and other factors). Local applicants only. Work will be
performed at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach, FL.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Facilities Maintenance or Construction OR
AA Degree

Experience operating equipment such as skid steer and tractor preferred but
not required.
Duties:

General grounds and facility maintenance at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee
National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). Work will include landscaping; maintenance and
rehabilitation of existing, worn infrastructure components, and natural area,
trail and facilities upkeep, rehabilitation, and maintenance. Minor equipment
maintenance and equipment operation may be required.

Facilities Maintenance ? Uses hand and power tools to repair, replace and
maintain damaged or worn property. Performs maintenance, installation, and
repair of mechanical and physical components of facilities and grounds. Provides
routine plumbing, electric, water plant, HVAC systems maintenance, repair and
enhancement as examples. Conducts routine carpentry, metal work, painting,
cleaning, and landscaping. Conducts as needed janitorial services. Test drinking
water for CL three times per week. 50%
Grounds Maintenance and Project Support: Posts signs, digs trenches, plants
vegetation, installs, maintains and repairs fences and gates. Mows, trims
vegetation, weed eats and pulls weeds by hand. Treats unwanted vegetation with
herbicide. Assists in maintenance of natural areas, parking areas, roadways and
trails. 30%
Equipment operations - operates gasoline, battery, electric or
diesel-powered equipment such as lawn maintenance tools, riding mowers, tractor,
skid steer. Ability to operate equipment utilizing multiple attachments
including but not limited to brush cutting, brush mastication, lifting, hauling,
shipping. 15%
Perform administrative duties related to time keeping. Maintain Service
property, such as computers, cameras, printers and other hardware or software
needed for the position. 5%

Other:
Use of heavy equipment and certain hand and power tools require Service
certification before use. Training would be provided by the Service as
available.
Training will be provided by the Service.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be requested to assist other
refuges with projects and emergency response events.
Overnight travel: Overnight travel is not required, but may be requested to
assist other Refuges.
Government Vehicle Training: Training will be provided by FWS.
Health and Safety Considerations: Training would be provided to operate
equipment as needed in order to gain Service certification to operate.
Required Safety Gear: Proper PPE including but not limited to safety-toed
boots, hard hat, eye/ear protection, and gloves that will be provided.
Safety Gear Use: PPE will be worn per Service safety policy.
Physical requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to
4 hours). Must be able to walk up to 1/4 mile to project site locations. Must be
able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
