The City of Raleigh Department of Transportation - Maintenance Division is responsible for sidewalk, curb and gutter, asphalt, bridge, and storm sewer maintenance. As well as right of way mowing, downtown cleaning, resurfacing and pavement preservation, and private development/utility inspections. The 218 person staff maintains over 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks, over 33,000 curb ramps, 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes and over 32,000 drainage inlets. The Concrete Maintenance Worker will assist the crew by laying out framing materials, setting and putting down frames as directed, preparing work sites for concrete pour, use shovels and other hand tools to backfill area with subgrade materials and to compact and level work area.
This position requires the ability to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather.
Loading and unloading materials, tools and equipment from trucks and ensures needed tools and equipment are on work site and in proper working order
Operates and uses pneumatic jackhammers, sledgehammers and other power and hand tools to break out old pavement, concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ADA Ramp and other labor work
Guides the pouring of concrete from trucks into forms and uses shovels and other hand tools
Removes and cleans forms, boards and stakes once job is completed, cleans tools and ensures debris is removed from work site
Cleans work sites at completion of jobs, loading and removing debris, sweeping and clearing area and performing light landscaping duties to restore areas
Sets up barricades and safety cones to cordon off work areas and performs other related tasks in compliance with safety rules and regulations
Assist during Snow and Ice events, loose leaf collection or another natural emergencies and inclement weather
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Knowledge of:

Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
