Job Summary

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list.

Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until cancelled. There is currently ONE positions open in the Maintenance & Operations Department. This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position.

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work in the alteration, repair, and occasional new construction of equipment and structures; assist journey level workers on more highly skilled projects. Positions in this class are assigned a variety of tasks in the building trades. Although work requires the use of journey tools and the ability to perform operations in several of the trades, the skill required in any one field is normally less than would be required of a journey level worker in that field. Incumbents are expected to work independently and identify those problems that need referral to more skilled or supervisory personnel.

Requirements / Qualifications

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and two years of experience in one or more of the building maintenance trades (electrical, HVAC&R, locksmith, plumbing, vehicle maintenance, welding, painting, low voltage electrical, carpentry, or comparable experience). License Possession of a valid California driver's license. Certificate of Registration, issued by the State Fire Marshal (to be obtained within 6 months of employment) Knowledge of Materials, tools, and methods used in the repair and maintenance of buildings and related equipment.

General safety practices and procedures. Requirements of facility and equipment maintenance and repair. Health and safety regulations and procedures.

Oral and written communication skills. Record-keeping and report preparation techniques. Operation of computer, mobile devices, and assigned software.

Proper lifting techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
