Job Description:

Hiring range: $35,546.00

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

Driving all types of haul vehicles including flat bed and dump trucks, as well as operating excavation and grading equipment;

Operating special function trucks such as leaf collection trucks (both automated and walk-behind), and snow removal equipment;

Participating in ground work using manual and power tools for jobs including cleaning storm drains and catch basins, ditch maintenance, pipe repair and maintenance, and general street maintenance related activities.

May be required to work in confined spaces such as underground drainage structures.

Required to meet work standards by following productivity, quality and customer service standards; resolving operational problems; identifying work process improvements; completing standard daily work reports and work orders.

Also responsible for the maintenance and repair of assigned equipment; maintaining safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal and safety regulations.

Will be required to maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; bench-marking state-of-the-art practices; accomplishing organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED and three years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Must have experience working around buried and underground utilities.

Licensing/Certifications

  • Valid NC Class A Commercial Driver License, or the ability to obtain within 15 days of hire.

VIEW JOBS 11/18/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-16T00:00 Job Description The anticipated hiring range for this position is $38,242.00 This is the fourth level in a nine level Maintenance and Operations Series devoted to providing repair, waste removal, maintenance and equipment operation for an assigned city maintenance or operational function. Incumbents provide skilled general maintenance or solid waste services based on assignment to any City department or maintenance function. Work may include providing repairs to buildings and/or grounds; performing maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and parts; operating assigned heavy equipment; providing crew oversight; maintaining records; maintaining cleanliness of work area, tools and equipment; and following safety policies and procedures. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties: Job duties include: Operating all types of haul vehicles and heavy equipment such as flat bed and dump trucks, backhoes, motor graders, jet vac trucks; cleaning and repairing storm drains and catch basins; ditch maintenance; pipe repair and maintenance; operating dump truck with leaf machine attachment or automated truck during leaf collection season; operating snow removal equipment during inclement weather. Other street maintenance related duties may be assigned. Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather.
