PGT Trucking Inc. is looking for experienced Class #8 tractor trailer mechanics to work at our facility in Laredo TX. Must have two years minimum hands on experience and have your own basic tools. Ideal candidate will be experience in performing scheduled preventative maintenance on our fleet of trucks and trailers. This will include; air brake, ABS, suspension repairs, electrical repairs, and other general repairs. This person will assist others with minor truck and trailer repairs. This position will require some computer entry of information. PGT is offering full time positions at 40 hours/week, great insurance plans including medical, dental, vision, prescription and employer matched 401k plan. Hourly wage is based on experiences.

BASIC FUNCTION

Receives repair orders, reviews mechanical difficulties of vehicle, diagnoses nature of problem, and performs necessary repairs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives repair orders from supervisor and performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with industry and factory standards.

  • Diagnoses cause and performs repair of any malfunction.

  • Communicates with parts department to obtain required parts.

  • Saves and tags parts if the job is under warranty or if requested. Documents work performed.

  • Conducts all activity with regard for personal safety, the safety of other personnel, and in accordance with all shop safety policies and practices.

  • Examines the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.

  • Advises shift supervisors immediately if additional work is required, if work outlined is not required, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time requested.

  • Road tests vehicles to confirm quality of repair work, when required, or refers to the supervisor as appropriate.

  • Monitors and assists with work of apprentice Truck Technicians, as assigned.

  • Keeps informed of factory technical bulletins. Attends Company sponsored training sessions. Stays aware of technical developments affecting performance of duties.

  • Keeps shop area neat and clean. Stands accountable for all Company owned tools at all times.

  • Understands and follows all federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes and materials.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and/or outside an office, library, computer room, stockroom, or warehouse. Work may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and outdoor elements, such as: excessive dampness, chill, heat, humidity, intermittent noise, and inclement cold weather. Work may be exposed to a variety of environmental conditions, such as: unknown & dangerous conditions, unusual environmental stress, contagious infectious disease, irritating chemicals, life-threatening situations, dry atmosphere, solvents, dirt, grease, oils, silica, asbestos, dust, constant noise, pneumatic vibration, fumes, smoke, gases, radiant/electrical energy, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces. Capable of working closely with others or alone, working long or irregular working hours, working shift work and/or weekends, working with protective devices, working below ground, working on ladders or scaffolding, working around moving objects or vehicles, working around machines with moving parts and objects, working with hands in water, and traveling by car 80% of the time. Ability to operate a motor vehicle, office equipment, and mechanical equipment; Work requires light to heavy carrying and lifting (under 15 pounds up to 45 pounds and over), straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, simple grasping, dual simultaneous grasping, repeated bending, sitting, standing, pushing, crouching, crawling, twisting, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, and reaching above shoulders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conducts pre-operation inspections of equipment, identifies equipment problems, and reports problems to supervisor for repairs. * Performs basic maintenance on equipment and tools including washing, changing oil, and greasing. * May assist in performing unskilled or semi-skilled labor such as installing fences, directing traffic, trimming trees, shrubs, and all other duties as needed to maintain the City. * May assist in training new employees and in assigning, checking, and approving work of laborers and other equipment operators. * Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts. * Must follow all rules of telephone and/or hand held radio courtesy in all communications. * Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use. * Performs other related duties. Minimum Qualifications At least five (5) years of experience as a heavy equipment operator (examples of heavy equipment are: backhoe, bulldozer, loader, front end loader, scraper, grader, or excavator) or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Licenses and Certifications A valid Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) class A or B must be obtained within 12 months of employment Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.
