Reporting directly to the campus facilities manager, this position will perform a variety of journey level tasks within any or several of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC or carpentry.

This position will supervise inmate work crews, according to Arizona Department of Corrections guidelines.

Will work non-traditional hours to include early mornings, nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.

  • Perform basic maintenance/repair activities such as:

  • Electrical: Replace existing receptacles and lamps, re-lamp campus exterior and interior lighting.

  • Plumbing: Maintain toilets and urinals in good working order; open clogged drains, and may make minor repairs on drinking fountains.

  • Carpentry: Construct, install and modify building wood/metal partitions, drop ceilings, bulletin boards. Assemble furniture, window frames and/or door shelving. Minor lock smith and lock repairs. Repair roofs.

  • Painting: Apply paint or varnish with a brush, roller and/or spray gun to surfaces, fill cracks/holes in walls with plaster or spackling paste and patch/repair sheet-rock walls.

  • HVAC: Perform routine inspection and cleaning on major equipment. Perform minor repairs under supervision. Change filters and perform normal preventive maintenance on equipment.

  • Within a skilled area, inspect projects, equipment, work areas or systems to identify and detect problem areas in need of replacement or repair. Perform basic troubleshooting procedures to identify defective machinery and equipment.

  • Perform maintenance and repair activities on equipment, buildings, fixtures or vehicles as required for the assigned area. Assist with painting.

  • Visually inspect areas, vehicles and equipment for cleanliness and problems in need of repair. Report problems to supervisor. May recommend actions appropriate to deter vandalism and other damage.

  • Assist with maintaining the safety of college facilities by turning on/off lights and keeping sidewalks and entryways free of debris as needed.

  • Perform moves and set up/takedown of tables, chairs and furniture as needed for college activities and special events.

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, hand and power tools, light trucks and utility vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.

  • May perform basic locksmith duties such as pinning, keying and lockset repairs.

  • May serve as the lead on a special project, delegating work assignments answering questions, and completing necessary paperwork as required.

  • Adhere to college, federal and state administrative procedures, guidelines, initiatives and directives to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations affection college operations.

  • Perform other tasks of a similar nature or level as assigned.

Not all duties assigned to every position are included, nor is it expected that all positions will be assigned every duty.Associate's Degree or completion of an apprenticeship period or certificated training though a vocational school or program or five (5) years experience in one or more relevant building trades or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

NOTE: After hire, the individual must successfully pass an Arizona Department of Corrections criminal background check and successfully complete mandatory training provided by the Arizona Department of Corrections to maintain employment.
