The Maintenance Technician, a field based position, is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting specialized railroad maintenance of way equipment. Perform regular maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and make repairs as needed on equipment. Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision keeping Safety and the customers' need as top priorities. This position travels a 21/7 schedule.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

Accountabilities and Responsibility

  • Perform routine inspections ad preventive maintenance of equipment and railroad cars.

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and make necessary repairs.

  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble carious electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical components of equipment.

  • Use typical mechanic and electrician tools, test equipment and welding equipment.

  • Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

  • Clean debris and lubricants from parts, work area, and equipment.

Communications

  • Communicate with customers.

  • Complete routine paperwork; send daily activity reports using Windows based phones.

  • Will be required to fill out daily DOT logbook.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:

HS Diploma/Equivalent

Some college preferred

Experience:

  • 1+ Years Working knowledge of typical rail cars, air brakes, basic components of the rail car, hazards, safety precautions, operating limits of the equipment operating, basic computer knowledge, understand operations, maintenance, and repair of industrial and construction equipment.
  • 3+ Years (Preferred) Classes taken for hydraulics, electrical pneumatics, and/or mechanical work. Railroad mechanical experience.
  • 4+ Years (Preferred) Experience working as a maintenance technician and operating heavy equipment.

Special licenses, other education, certification, or professional memberships:

  • Railroad Maintain railroad safety training and certifications

  • Driver License Maintain a valid driver's license in order to be insurable by the Company insurance carrier.

This position is considered a safety sensitive role.   • 100% travel including international, using any method of transportation.

  • Work near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.

  • Work environment noise is usually loud.

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs.
