Successful Maintenance Technicians come from various backgrounds including: apartment maintenance, HVAC, general labor, construction, hotel and recent technical school graduates.

Day to Day the nitty, but not the gritty:

  • Respond to maintenance issues, follow-up with residents and office staff, and handle routine issues for appliances, pools, and building upkeep

  • Be a valuable member of the maintenance team, and be responsible for checking, troubleshooting, and making routine repairs

  • Resolve any maintenance issues including: appliances, air conditioning, heating, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, pools, and other building items

  • Responsible for compliance with all OSHA regulations and any applicable laws in your area, regarding health, safety, or environment, as well as budget and key control

  • Work directly and consistently with residents to analyze and resolve issues

  • Resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner, with a sense of urgency and customer focus

Your skills - show us what you got:

  • Experience in apartment and/or residential maintenance

  • Excellent communication skills and professional appearance to work with our high-end residents

  • Individual must be AC qualified and able to read wiring diagrams

  • High level of competency and efficiency in all aspects of maintenance operations (pool, appliance, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, etc.)

  • Capable of performing sustained manual labor

  • May require overtime, holiday, and weekend work

  • Requires ownership of hand tools

  • Ability to work in inclement weather

  • Great time management skills

Denver Zoo's Maintenance department has an opportunity for a full time Maintenance Technician responsible for conducting general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment and property structures. Responsibilities include carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical repairs. Candidates should have two years of general non-licensed maintenance experience (preferred), a valid driver's license (with a clear driving record) and be customer service oriented. Our staff is a dedicated and diverse group of individuals committed to providing quality care to our animals while creating moments of awe for guests. In this role, you will: * Work and assist in all Maintenance Department shops; including but not limited to: * Inspect facilities and equipment to determine construction, mechanical installation, maintenance, or repairs needed. * Perform maintenance, construction, tenant finish and remodel painting on a variety of surfaces. * Perform maintenance, alteration, repair, and installation of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. * Tape and finish drywall, install wall and floor coverings, remove old finishes and prepares surfaces and select premixed paint or mixes paints to achieve desired color. * Move furniture and appliances with various pieces of equipment and other maintenance personnel. * Escorts contractors behind scenes; including communicating to Zoo staff when entering and exiting an area, making sure they're working safely, and contractors clean up before leaving. * Run errands for materials, etc., as needed. * Clean and maintain tools, equipment and work area; prepare equipment as needed. * Maintain records and prepare daily activity reports. * Troubleshoot and diagnose problems needing maintenance or repairs. * Perform submitted maintenance requests. * Operate various pieces of equipment such as backhoes, Bobcats, and forklifts. * Consistently provide exceptional customer service. * Set priorities in alignment with Inspire Awe: * Safety first, always * Care demonstrated through exceptional guest service * Connect with each guest utilizing ROADMAP in all programs and GIG strategies with guests * Demonstrate a commitment to Denver Zoo's Sustainability Policies by adhering to all environmental, safety, & health regulations, procedures, and goals. * Act in accordance with Denver Zoo's Core Behaviors: Passion, Respect, Innovation, Diversity, and Excellence in all interactions with staff, guest, volunteers, and vendors. The Successful Candidate will have the following qualifications: * High school graduate or equivalent. * Two years of general non-licensed maintenance experience highly desirable. * Ability to read and work from manuals, blueprints, written and verbal instructions. * Must possess good interpersonal communications skills. * Must possess excellent customer service skills. * Ability to work with little supervision. * Ability to interact with fellow employees and guests at the zoo. * Clear driving record. * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
