The City of New Albany Parks Department is hiring for a full-time maintenance person. To carry out work required to maintain, repair, prepare for useage and improve the buildings, facilities and parks within Parks and Recreation in order to ensure that we provide an excellent customer experience at all times.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES "" denotes an essential function of the job Responsible for outdoor duties such as, grounds and parks maintenance, athletic field maintenance, setup and layout, construction and repair of park structures and buildings. Responsible for indoor duties such as, performing routine maintenance at the city park's buildings and recreational facilities, athletic field maintenance, setup and layout, janitorial work, and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Perform routine maintenance requiring basic knowledge in the following areas: auto mechanics, diesel mechanics, equipment repair, plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry, masonry, painting, HVAC, construction and remodeling.

Ability to operate and maintain park equipment and specialty equipment as well as operate single commercial vehicles over 2,000 pounds. Knowledge of safe operations of, use of, and proper maintenance of but not limited to department facilities and structures, vehicles, equipment, small power and hand tools. Knowledge of grounds, turf, landscaping, and preparation of chemical use and clean up as well as pesticide application practices.

Maintain regular communication with supervisor regarding current project status plus completion of assigned maintenance projects, offer technical assistance as needed. Responsible for carrying out both the short-term and long-term park and maintenance operations including weekly work operations, handling materials and supplies, cleaning facilities and adhering to safety procedures. Assist with the purchase of and inventory of materials and supplies utilized on job sites.

Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports and corrects potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly Attend training sessions and staff meetings and seminars as requested. Must maintain through knowledge of the department functions Perform other duties as assigned. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Demonstrate informative and professional assistance when working with vendors, co-workers, and the public.

Act independently and originate new procedures and new approaches to problems. Display excellent verbal and written communication skills. Maintain initiative to preserve the flow of work.

Work under stress and with commitment to deadlines. Sustain interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and with the general public. Complete projects and/or reports in accurate and timely manner Maintain City information in a confidential manner.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work as a team member. Display professional appearance, warm demeanor and positive attitude. Be a motivated self-starter.

Work independently and to be accurate, efficient and organized. Manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Work under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.

Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally. Lift and/or move up to 55 pounds frequently. Ability to climb ladders, work on scaffolding, work in high places.

Lift and/or move up to 55 pounds frequently. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.

Significant amount of time will be spent working outdoors and in inclement weather (within reason and safety) to include: hot, humid, cold, rain, ice and snow. This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends will be required. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent required. Desired parks and recreation and/or maintenance certification preferred. Prior experience in maintaining athletic fields, park land and other grounds work.

Preferred knowledge or mechanical aptitude with auto and diesel mechanics and equipment repair. Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team environment. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.

A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor. Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned. Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Familiar with basic OSHA stands and safety practices. Experience in parks and recreation and/or maintenance certification preferred. Certification in first aid and CPR a plus.
