The Raleigh Parks system boasts approximately 10,000 acres, including 200 parks and open spaces; 120 miles of greenway trails; 38 community and neighborhood centers; 2 art centers; 2 active-adult centers; 9 historic sites, museums, and cemeteries; 63 athletic fields; over 100 tennis courts; 4 lakes; 4 nature preserves; 73 locations with playgrounds; 7 dog parks; 8 swimming pools and more. We have over 425 full-time staff and employ nearly 1,800 part-time and seasonal staff annually during peak spring, summer, and fall seasons. The FY23 annual operating budget for Raleigh Parks is $60.7M, and the annual capital improvement budget is approximately $8M. On November 8, 2022, the City of Raleigh will have a $275M public bond referendum for the new construction and renovation of parks, greenways, and community centers.

This position supports a Heavy Construction Crew based at the North East Remote Operations.  It consists of four staff members assigned to maintain park infrastructure, amenities, construction site preparation, light demolition, drainage repairs, erosion repairs, hardscape repairs, and inspections, along with assisting other crews and departments in cleanup efforts or maintenance repairs.

• Inspect and operate safely assorted pieces of heavy equipment including backhoes, track loaders, excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, knuckle-boom trucks, asphalt rollers, and various tandem dump trucks and trailers

• Perform general grading and cleaning of job sites, pouring concrete, laying asphalt, demolition, transporting equipment, debris removal, erosion issues, pipe replacement, interments

• Deliver materials

• Use hand/power tools and standard maintenance equipment.

• Assist other internal crews with renovations and maintenance throughout the City of Raleigh's Park System and/or Greenway.

• Assist other departments in the efforts of cleanup and repair during emergency response or inclement weather events such as snow removal and tree debris from roadways.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

• Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
