Maintenance General Specialist

Job Summary:

Performs routine repairs and maintenance of plant and/or office facilities and equipment. Performs basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning, plumbing, plastic or sheet metal fabrication, or associated work on plant facilities using hand and power tools. May be required to troubleshoot equipment or facilities problems and reports them to supervisor. May interpret blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications. May perform routine inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary. Normally top-level jobs requiring considerable knowledge of the job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general aspects and technical phases of the job and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Limited supervision. No instructions are needed on routine work, and only general instructions are given on new lines of work or special assignments. Independently performs non-routine and moderately complex assignments. Researches assignments, processes, and analyzes data and may develop recommendations. Competently uses computers and other systems to access, maintain, manipulate data. May provide leadership, direction to lower level employees. In technical or production positions, may determine methods, operations, sequences; develops and/or modifies products and equipment to requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use of basic carpentry skills; including but not limited to framing, drywall, tape/mud finishing, texture, painting etc. Basic knowledge of frame/door/closure/hardware installation

  • Perform office moves, furniture move and reconfigure, cubicle set up, move and reconfigure

  • Assist in repair and adjust equipment as required in order to return equipment to proper operating condition

  • Interface with other contractors and other departments with whom they must work or share joint responsibilities to assure a proper working business atmosphere is maintained at all times

  • Document all events such as leaks, mechanical or electrical failures, tenant complaints, accidents, vendors and contractors entering or leaving the building

  • Document all anomalies, significant weather disturbances, frozen pipes, glass breaks, door closure concerns, roof leaks, etc.

  • Snow removal activities


High School diploma, Vocational School a plus


  • Minimum 3 years prior experience

  • Moderate HVAC experience, moderate carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills, Systems Furniture experience

  • Read and interpret blueprint/drawings

  • Applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a security clearance


EPA 608 Universal preferred, Mech IV preferred, or able to obtain each within 6 months

Physical Demands:

The employee frequently is required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, professional office space or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, freezing and/or wet conditions. The employee may encounter dust, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.

The maintenance mechanic is directly involved with the execution of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs. In this role you will * Performs Total Productive Maintenance for all equipment related to manufacturing. Tracks repair history in the maintenance database. * Installs automation equipment or projects in support of continuous improvement projects. * Repairs electric, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits as needed. Replaces defective components to restore proper operation of equipment and mechanical systems. Makes modifications to equipment to achieve desired results. Maintains accurate records and metrics related to machine downtime due to maintenance issues. Works with contractors verifying compliance to desired results. * Performs activities relating to 6s in order to drive better work place standardization. Delivers timely responses to gemba walk observations, quality audits, and 6s audit findings. Maintains a clean and safe work area. Performs duties in a safe manner and observes approved safety procedures. Responsed promptly to minimize downtime, and drive improvements, * Communicates potential hazards immediately to supervisor and identifies and corrects potential unsafe conditions. * Participates on kaizen activities when related areas of responsibility. * May also coordinate outside equipment calibration activities for flow controllers sensor operations, including validation and testing of equipment upon return from calibration. * Completes other duties as assigned. Traits we believe make a strong candidate High School Diploma and 1-2 years maintenance experience. Ability to operate forklift truck. Ability to read and understand maintenance instructions and prints, perform math computations and computer data entry. Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder up to 15 ft. and walk and stand during entire shift. Works in a warehouse and manufacturing environment.
