Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

APL is looking for a dedicated, hardworking power equipment mechanic with experience in the repairing reefer units, gensets, service trucks, forklifts, and container damage. Technician needs to be team-oriented, committed to quality work and a quick learner. This position focuses on reefers, generators, power equipment and container repairs for marine cargo/intermodal transport.

Responsibilities

• Performing preventative maintenance procedures and repairs on various types of reefer units, generators, power equipment and repairs to damaged containers with little or no supervision.

• Use repair orders to record all work performed and submit daily.

• Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner.

• Follow established procedures to track work and complete forms connected with work assignments.

• Ensure timely completion of work according to company regulations and procedures, and instruction from Foreman, or Manager

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Working experience with reefer units, diesel generators, power equipment and container repairs, preferably within the transportation industry.

• Experience operating service trucks, forklifts.

• Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the employer's insurance policy.

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local government and company standards for reliability and safety.

• Familiar with Thermo-King, Carrier, and other transport refrigeration equipment, a plus

• Have good verbal and written communications skills.

• Familiarity with the maritime containerized cargo industry and port terminal operations.

• Certified to use refrigerants, R134a and R404 and others as needed.

• May be required to use a laptop computer to diagnose and/or reference repair manuals.

• May work in a shop, at our yard or out of a mobile service vehicle.

• Must be willing to work emergency after hour's on-call rotation.

• Willingness to perform additional duties/assignments as may be required by management.

• Willingness to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays.

This will be a union represented position. Membership/payment of dues with the IAM will be required after 31 days of employment.Competitive pay and benefits.
