Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Four (4) or more years related work experience and/or training preferred.

  • Previous successful work experience in the area of maintenance, repair, and/or mechanics.

Other:

  • General knowledge in the fields of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.

  • An ability to work independently and efficiently on assigned tasks.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • An ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computers and other technology.

  • A strong work ethic and commitment to the team concept.

  • A genuine commitment to serving others.

  • High moral, professional, and ethical standards.

  • Possess such other qualifications as may be deemed desirable by the Board of School Trustees or the Superintendent of Schools.

Reports To: Facilities Coordinator

Work Days/Hours: 8 hours per day; 260 days per year; overtime eligible. School work environment, daytime hours.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Respond to all daily requests for repairs.

  • Utilize the work order system to track and maintain data on daily repairs completed and work requests responded to.

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor and major repair on equipment and systems (includes tractor, scrubber, rug cleaners, vacuum cleaners, etc.).

  • Periodically inspect equipment and systems to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.

  • Maintain and check boilers daily and monitor proper water levels of boilers, especially during the heating season.

  • Maintain boilers, air conditioners, and ventilation units to ensure proper and uninterrupted temperatures.

  • Maintain soccer, track, and baseball field, spraying lines, general upkeep of bleachers.

  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and doorways and lawn care as needed.

  • Maintain all playground equipment.

  • Work with State Fire Marshall during facility inspections.

  • Maintain a schedule of filter changes and lubrications.

  • Maintain an inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and equipment.

  • Keep an updated record of all maintenance and repair work completed.

  • Work closely with Facilities Coordinator relative to all building problems, concerns, and activities.

  • Spray for weeds around the building.

  • Check all filter belts and oil in air handlers and replace as needed.

  • Maintain kitchen equipment (steamer, ovens, freezer, etc.).

  • Maintain all electrical lights, outlets, clocks, replace all bulb covers, etc.

  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and repair; run new wiring and conduit as needed.

  • Maintain a high standard of safety and neatness in the work area at all times.

  • Remain current on hazardous chemical standards, asbestos regulations, and all other safety-related issues.

  • Perform other such duties as directed by the Facilities Coordinator and/or the Director of Operations/Superintendent.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee should be able to use the following machines, tools, equipment, and work aids which may represent, but not be all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: pen, pencil, tape recorder, calculator, shredder, resource materials, computers, typewriter, and various chemicals/materials such as copier toner, developer, permanent markers, etc.
