Job Summary

Plans and schedules maintenance activities (e.g. planned maintenance programs, shut-downs, or emergency repairs) of maintenance teams.

Essential Functions

  • Allocates maintenance technicians to tasks and activities for maximum efficiency.

  • Direct production-related maintenance activities through effective scheduling of maintenance resources (parts, services, and staffing) to support production volumes. Minimize downtime due to equipment failures. Maintain equipment in serviceable condition for production use.

  • Optimize maintenance labor, service, and parts costs.

  • Actively support operations, safety, sanitation, and quality goals for the plant. Achieve plant safety goals through heightened awareness, safety audits and improvements in housekeeping. These include Safe workplace, Increased employee productivity, minimize loss of production due to injury, lower insurance claims, lost time days.

  • The maintenance department provides technical leadership and support to the production areas.

  • The department is responsible for the timely repair and maintenance of the equipment used to print and form paper cups, lids, and ice cream containers on a 24/7 basis. Approximately 60 hourly workers provide all types of mechanical and electrical support to the facility.

  • The supervisor engages in effective training and development of employees by providing clear objectives, tools and resources needed to succeed.

  • Will be challenged to provide staffing needed to balance the day-to-day production needs while maintaining a preventive maintenance program.

  • Maintain SQF Superior Rating and YUM and IMS certifications. Food safe/quality-oriented environment with fewer customer complaints while maintaining and increasing volume of business.

  • Achieve Maintenance Department objectives. Cost efficient/cost effective operations

  • Achieve OPMS Measurements to include Higher productivity, Decreased costs, and Increased efficiency.

  • Effective training and development of employees by providing clear objectives, tools and resources needed to succeed, and continual review for feedback.

  • The most typical problem for this position deals with manpower staffing needed to balance the day-to-day production needs while maintaining a preventive maintenance program. Complex problems deal with troubleshooting lines that are needed for production when no time/parts/service/resources/money are available - how to manage a short-term "quick fix" and a longer-term permanent repair while building a cohesive maintenance team.

  • The position must continuously monitor and balance short term vs. long term challenges. Staffing and training plans must first be developed, budgeted, and then implemented in order to achieve long range plans.

  • Critical to learn: 1) the equipment specific to the industry and 2) personnel policy and procedures.

  • The equipment is site specific and each piece of equipment as its own history, bill of materials and preventive maintenance program. It is time-consuming to learn the several hundred individual pieces of equipment used in the Huhtamaki-Fulton production process.

  • Personnel policies and procedures also vary within industries. Learning the bargaining agreement language, and the various company policies and procedures is also a lengthy process but critical to the success of the position.

Job Qualifications

Required

  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems (including hydraulics and pneumatics).

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Good communication (oral and written) and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Ability to use computer software systems including Work, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Technical troubleshooting, leadership and communication skills are key for this position.

Preferred

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering)

  • Associate degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering).

  • Minimum of (3) years' experience in maintenance supervisory in a union environment.

  • Working knowledge EPA and/or FDA regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of team building and high-performance work systems.

  • Experience in Print (flexo/litho) and/or Paper Industry. Extensive knowledge of controls automation, electrical distribution, facility maintenance and high-speed packaging equipment.

  • Experience with Maintenance CMMS system (Mainsaver) and Microsoft Project.

  • Past job experience as Maintenance Planner, Project Engineer, or Production Supervisor.

Salary: $72,000-$80,000+ DOE

Environment

  • Must be able to work throughout the facility. Extremes of heat and cold. Exposure to weather. Exposure to darkness, cramped spaces, loud noises, chemicals and fumes, dust, heights, and work safety hazards.
  • 24/7 support and extended work hours required.
