The Maintenance Area Supervisor is responsible for addressing throughput, run to run, and downtime related issues with equipment in a production environment. This role will coordinate activities according to World Class manufacturing (WCM) standards (particularly the Autonomous and Professional Maintenance Pillar activities) while impacting the overall equipment effectiveness, through a systematic approach of planning and executing key maintenance enablers and coordinating all activities utilizing the TMS system.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical / engineering discipline required; OR Journeymen status with minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience; OR minimum of 10 years of technical/manufacturing experience

  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required

  • Must possess a working knowledge of advanced technical problem solving tools

  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the plant from hourly represented employees to senior leadership as required

  • Goal oriented and a self-starter and ability to lead and manage in a team based structure

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field

  • Green Belt/ Red X/ Six Sigma Training

  • Manufacturing supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/develop team members

  • Experience working in a union environment

  • Strong background in LEAN manufacturing systems

  • Experience with RS Logic, PLC-5, Control Logics, Allen Bradley Drive Systems, machine installation, robotic automation and application

Examples of Duties 1.Supervises a large group of workers engaged in the upkeep of parks, playgrounds, parkways, medians, boulevards, athletic fields, pools and canals. 2. Assigns crews and workers to various projects and tasks. 3. Provides instruction and project details to subordinate employees. 4. Develops and implements training procedures as necessary. 5. Ensures that the application of pesticides conforms to pertinent safety regulations. 6. Inspects work in process and upon completion. 7. Confers with management regarding plans, policies, and work progress. 8. Requisitions equipment and supplies. 9. Manages data collection from district crews and submits reports of work activities. 10. Ensures proper maintenance of tools and equipment. 11. Tracks employee attendance and work performance and issues discipline as necessary. 12. Evaluates projects for consideration as capital improvements. 13. Confers with management about yearly budget requirements. Minimum Qualifications High School graduation or G.E.D. Three years of experience in ground maintenance or landscape activities, preferably including two years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE OF: * Methods and equipment used in the maintenance of parks and parkways. * Natural landscape and plant care best practices. * Occupational hazards and safety precautions. SKILL IN: * Supervising staff, delegating tasks and authority and evaluating staff performance. * Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects. * Safe use of chemicals and pesticides. * Observation and attention to detail. * Operating a personal computer and utilizing common office software. * Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Use of basic equipment, tools, and supplies used to support ground maintenance activities. ABILITY TO: * Promote and enforce safety work practices. * Evaluate and implement changes in programs. * Display initiative and resourcefulness in handling work problems. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees in this class shall be required to obtain a State of Michigan Commercial Driver License with a Group B endorsement within 6 months of being hired. Successful applicants must meet physical standards prescribed by the Michigan State of Motor Carrier Safety Act-1988. Employees in this class must possess a valid State of Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification with category 6. Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Work is typically performed outdoors with exposure to all seasonal weather conditions and to pesticides. Work involves frequent bending, lifting, and operating a variety of heavy landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment. Employees in this class are required to wear appropriate safety attire in accordance with departmental and MIOSHA safety regulations.
