Spire is seeking a Supervisor, Maintenance to work in the Birmingham AL operation. This position will be responsible for managing, coordinating and supervising the installation, replacement and/or maintenance of pipe of various sizes and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise the work involved in more complex installations or replacement projects involving all material types and sizes of pipe, including plastic, cast iron and steel

  • Plan and supervise the construction procedures and installation of each job, per Company standards, including contacting USIC or utilities to have facilities marked

  • Contact customers or contractors for access and availability to keep job progressing

  • Complete necessary paperwork and/or data entry, via computer, for Payroll, Engineering, Safety, etc.

  • Monitor the job site for conditions that may be hazardous to employees or the public and keep track of existing soil conditions and maintain proper shoring and sloping per OSHA and Company standards

  • Train employees on proper construction and/or distribution maintenance procedures and standards

  • Observe and evaluate new and probationary employees

  • Manage inventory of tools and materials on the job site and order more as necessary to complete the job

  • Supervise and document testing of all pipe prior to it being entered into the distribution system

  • Oversee the implementation of plans to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the region

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Education: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)

  • High School Diploma/GED

Required knowledge, skill and abilities:

  • Three years of experience in the installation, replacement and/or maintenance of pipe of various sizes and materials

  • Knowledge and experience with union contracts preferred

  • Supervisory experience preferred

Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:

  • A mix of normal office conditions, outdoors and exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises

  • Required to work assigned weekend schedule

Responsible for the safe, expeditious, and accurate performance of routine in reference to a daily preventative maintenance schedule in and around the laundry facility. Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: * Maintains all plant equipment to include high volume industrial washers and or dryers.
