The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Maintenance and Operations is looking for a Maintenance Specialist, Traffic Control & Electrical Systems, Journey 2/ Lead to help us

  • We are offering Mission Critical Incentive Pay (MCIP) that will be in addition to the base hourly wage in the amount of $700.00, less deduction, paid on a biweekly basis. For specific questions regarding this recruitment or the MCIP, please contact the hiring manager for this position.



What you will be doing:

This position will require the incumbent to use a variety of his/her electrical knowledge and skills to troubleshoot equipment ranging from 12 VAC and 24 VDC controls to 120-480 VAC line voltage systems. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starter, have the ability to work alone or as part of a team and be able to manage multiple work locations within the Fairbanks District.

Successful applicant will provide support to various Construction projects managed by the Department regarding signals and lighting during the construction season. The successful applicant will need to be willing to work in all weather conditions on a wide assortment of electrical equipment. Using a selection of light duty equipment, hand tools and various testing devices the candidate will ideally optimize the functionality of our traffic signal systems and highway lighting. Troubleshooting and problem-solving identified issues will be a daily task.

  • This position requires the incumbent to have an Electrician's license with the State of Alaska or a reciprocal state; and

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

A Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with auto transmission and air brakes endorsement are required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an auto transmission and air brakes endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

ELECTRICIANS LICENSE REQUIRED

All applicants are required to have an Electricians license with the State of Alaska in order to be hired into the above position. A conditional hire approval can be given for those applicants who are licensed in a state who has entered into a reciprocal agreement with the State of Alaska.

An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon successfully obtaining an Electricians license with the State of Alaska within 90 days, and may begin work only AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the license.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.
