What you will be doing:

Performs advanced installation, maintenance, and repairs on the DDC equipment and systems for the HVAC; lighting, and fire/life safety applications; CCTV equipment and systems; communication systems for voice and data; telecommunications equipment and systems; LAN/WAN systems; broadband and radio systems; fire alarm components and systems; security detections systems.

The working environment you can expect:

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates. You will be working within the Maintenance department as well as throughout the facility around inmates and other staff on a daily basis.

Work is performed independently, using standard methods and techniques, and consists of assignments that are typical of the occupational field. Journey workers can use a variety of interrelated skills to independently complete work that conforms to industry standards. The work may require proof of competence, training or certification.

Goose Creek Correctional Center is located on Point Mackenzie off Alsop Road. The daily commute allows you to enjoy Alaska's beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an employee who has the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of practices in hazardous electrical areas, procedures and practices for discharging capacitors and proper grounding of conduits.

• Knowledge of and ability to design, install, troubleshoot, maintain and inspect: Computer systems, networks and related devices, electronic shop and trade practices, including technological changes, Existing and new electrical and electronic systems, components and devices.

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair defective electronic/electrical equipment.

• Knowledge of and skill in cabling practices for copper and fiber optic.

• Knowledge and ability of installing conduit and splicing cable.

Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS

Please be aware - this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS).  A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS.  DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.  Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.  

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
