ATTENTION ALL ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for a Maintenance Specialist, Electrician, Journey 2/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the airfield and facility lighting systems at the Dalton District Certificated and Non-Certificated Airports and all associated facilities. The incumbent will fly by charter to remote airports to repair the runway lighting systems, including but not limited to, rotating beacons, pilot control lighting (PCL), 5 kilovolt runway lighting systems, constant current regulator, control relay cabinet, and all power distribution and service equipment.

The may also include a standby diesel generator system with automated switching controls. You will be required to maintain, troubleshoot, and provide timely repairs, both temporary and permanent, to a wide variety of electrical systems at all of our remote facilities within the Dalton District, including all Dalton Highway maintenance facilities, as well as the Deadhorse and Barrow certified airports. In addition, you will be required to perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties in support of Part 139 operations, complete annual ARFF certification and medical evaluation/fitness test requirements, and participate in ARFF training at the station level, perform runway inspections, note and correct deficiencies, and ensure that runways meet FAA certification standards in advance of Part 139 operations.

SPECIAL NOTICE:

  • A valid Alaska Drivers License is required
  • A State of Alaska Electrical Journeyman Fitness Card is required - A conditional hire approval can be given for those applicants who are licensed in a state who has entered into a reciprocal agreement with the State of Alaska.

Training Provided After Hire:

  • ARFF training, including 40-hour course and medical evaluation and fit test for self-contained breathing apparatus

  • Training in Managing Wildlife Hazards at Airports, Airport Security Coordinator training, and aircraft radio communication

ELECTRICIAN'S LICENSE REQUIRED

All applicants are required to have an Electricians license with the State of Alaska in order to be hired into the above position. A conditional hire approval can be given for those applicants who are licensed in a state who has entered into a reciprocal agreement with the State of Alaska.

An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon successfully obtaining an Electricians license with the State of Alaska within 90 days, and may begin work only AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the license.

ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT

This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. AIRPORT SECURITY BADGE

Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation, along with a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.
