Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position will be part of the team responsible for planning, scheduling, and parts acquisition for the Maintenance Department. Acting as a liaison between the Maintenance Planner, the Maintenance Supervisor, and Operations, this individual will be a key team member in assuring the daily and weekly maintenance schedules are effectively created and executed in a timely and efficient manner with little or no issues related to parts procurement or resource availability. The work schedule will vary depending on the maintenance crew schedules in respective areas.

The Maintenance Planner will report directly to the Scheduler, and at times, will provide supervision on the plant floor for maintenance activities.

In this dynamic role, the individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Developing and maintaining a safe working environment through compliance with Mueller Co. - Chattanooga's Health & Safety Program

  • Verifying resource requirements and availability before scheduling planned work

  • Complying with the Maintenance Scheduler's roles and responsibilities defined in the planning, planned and unplanned work processes.

  • Verifying work orders are in the appropriate status (Approved, Ready to Schedule, In-progress, or Complete)

  • Generating a complete weekly schedule

  • Reviewing the weekly schedule with Maintenance Supervisor to refine details surrounding current conditions

  • Reviewing the weekly schedule with Operations to incorporate operational concerns and limitations and modifying schedules accordingly

  • Chair and lead the weekly scheduling meeting

  • Releasing all work orders daily for dissemination to the maintenance supervisor and mechanics

  • Ensuring all identified resources are assigned to open work orders

  • Maintaining, coordinating and expediting the flow of materials and components for all scheduled work

  • Reviews contractor paperwork for compliance and payment

  • J.D. Edwards Power User

  • Interacting daily with Maintenance Supervisors to ensure schedules are adhered to and modified as necessary

  • Coordinating core and repairable component return to vendor in a timely manner

  • Assisting in acquiring parts as identified by the Maintenance Supervisor for unscheduled work

  • Acquiring contract labor or equipment support as necessary

  • Communicating inventory shortfalls and overstocks to warehouse

  • Review of completed work orders for recording of required data, planned vs. actual; hours, tools, materials, and safety requirements to identify any required changes or improvements

  • Forward required template changes to maintenance planner for updating

  • Tracking and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • % Work Order Past Due

  • PM Schedule Compliance %

  • Planned Work Hrs %

  • Unplanned Work Hrs %

  • Emergency Work %

  • Backlog Report

  • Work Orders Past Due

Job requirements include demonstrated aptitudes in organizational, planning, and resourcing skills with the ability to supervise maintenance crews. A high school diploma is required and a journeyman's certificate, a related technical diploma, or engineering degree with supervisory / lead experience is preferred. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office functions particularly Excel, Outlook and Word are necessary. Training will be provided on J.D. Edwards as needed. Previous experience with materials acquisition, planning and scheduling is an asset.

Excellent communication skills, proven human relation skills and follow-up skills are required. The ability to meet deadlines is essential. Familiarity with the maintenance processes and system software is an asset. Must be a proven team player and work well in a multi-tasking, fast paced environment.
