Maintenance Repairperson (Intermittent) - T.C. Steele HS
This position provides labor necessary for the maintenance of grounds, trails and associated equipment at T.C. Steele State Historic Site. Incumbent will assist with minor structure repairs and maintenance as needed.
A day in the life
Maintaining clean and tidy public areas and work areas, including but not limited to: cleaning service areas; cleaning and maintaining state vehicles; cleaning pit toilets; clearing tree limbs and debris; sweeping sidewalks and porches surrounding facilities; assisting with housekeeping duties in historic buildings; weed eating, leaf blowing, and raking around facilities and roadsides; picking up trash along roadsides.
Maintaining garden areas, including weeding, watering, mulching and repairing of stonework.
Clearing and maintaining trails and grounds, including some heavy lifting.
Maintaining equipment and tools.
Assisting with set-up, parking, and other logistical tasks during historic site programs and events.
Maintain safe work practices at all times, including wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, etc., as required for the assigned task.
Use good judgment in when to ask for help or clarification.
Interact with public in a professional, helpful manner answering general public questions regarding the historic site and its facilities.
Assist with duties associated with other full-time and season positions when directed to do so.
What we're looking for
Ability to operate hand and power tools as well as motorized equipment such as mowers, blowers and weed eaters.
Working knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
Ability to operate tractor and associated implements required.
Ability to do physical labor required.
Must be able to work outdoors in hot or cold weather extremes for several hours at a time.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must possess a valid Indiana driver's license.
Knowledge of garden plants helpful.
High School diploma or GED useful.
Required to work hours assigned. Weekends and some holidays are required (occasional).
Be willing to follow the Corporation's dress code.
