Job Summary:

This is a classified Journeyman position that has an expanded scope of repair work compared to a Maintenance Repairer 1 and gives guidance and support for an assigned group of Maintenance Repairer helpers. This position performs tasks necessary to maintain specific areas on campus where assigned and performs duties as determined by the Maintenance Repairer Master. The position must be able to perform work with minimal to no supervision.

Physical ability to move heavy items and eye-hand coordination necessary to work with tools and equipment; ability to work extended hours and work on weekends as necessary; knowledge in troubleshooting and performing minor repairs to computerized access gates, computerized pay stations and motorized paint machines (manual and self-propelled); ability to walk, stand, lift, bend, push and kneel for extended periods of time.

Per PS-18 this position is deemed essential to campus operations and will be required to report to or remain on campus during times of emergency or closure. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.

Job Description:

55% Performs general parking lot and road maintenance by measuring spaces and travel lanes, installing, removing, and replacing directional signs, parking/traffic signs, specialty signs, signposts and filing potholes as assigned. Cleans and prepares surface to be painted using various types of equipment and chemicals (scrapers, blowers, brooms, shovels, weed eaters, paint removers, etc.). Measures paint amounts and Applies paint using paint machines, rollers, brushes, stencils, and spray cans.

25% Assess functionality of the computerized pay stations and access gates around campus and performs basic checks and minor repairs, replace parts and reset the computers as necessary to maintain the equipment. Starts, operates, checks for safety, and makes minor repairs on a variety of small engines (blowers, weed eaters, generators, etc.), and keep all equipment clean and in good working order.

20% Works hands on with measuring, positioning, and applying reflective (non-reflective as needed) thermoplastic for crosswalks and stop bars campus wide with the use of bonding chemicals (as needed) to include any other use required or assigned. Performs incidental duties and various related work as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.

NOTE:

Custodial building maintenance is not qualifying.

Examples of building construction trades include cabinetmaker, carpenter, concrete finisher, electrician, HVAC controls technician, HVAC mechanic, ironworker, millwright, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, refrigeration mechanic, roofer, sheet metal worker, steamfitter, tile setter and welder.

Examples of building maintenance include Maintenance Repairer 1/2, B/G/E Maintenance Repairer 1/2 and Maintenance Repair Foreman.

Examples of repair/maintenance of mechanical equipment include Operating Engineer 1/2, auto mechanic, Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic and Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic.

Maintenance Repairer 2
