Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Employment Type: Full Time, University Staff, Non-Exempt

Reports To: The Maintenance Mechanic will report to the Facilities Manager.

Pay: Minimum $18/hour

Our Maintenance Mechanics perform advanced level mechanical maintenance and repair work, maintain and make repairs on plumbing, heating and refrigeration, air conditioning and other mechanical systems and apparatus commonly used in office and institutional building and building complexes. In addition, employees perform preventative maintenance, make repairs and perform minor installations to HVAC equipment. The ability to work with DDC and pneumatic controls is also necessary.

The Facilities Management Department is a key part of the University that ensures the campus roads are clean, that utilities like water and electricity are operating effectively and efficiently, and that our campus is clean and beautiful. The work environment for this position is predominantly indoors. Exposure to dust, odors, moving mechanical parts and noise is common.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Receives, responds, and prioritizes service requests

  • Monitors, diagnoses, and communicates buildings' maintenance operational needs according to established policies and procedures from start to completion

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment

  • Documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation

Physical requirements: Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding and rooftop access stairs.

Required to carry tools and parts often weighing 50 pounds or more. Use ropes and pulleys to hoist tools and parts to installation elevations. Service work involves crawling on, under and inside of air handling ducts which are often dirty and dusty.

Worker must be able to utilize hand tools, power tools and equipment while maintaining a safe environment for yourself and others in the area. Proper and safe tool utilization requires dexterity and mobility of hands and arms. Long periods of standing, sitting, kneeling, walking and computer work are possible.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or GED

  • At least 4 years work experience in the maintenance field

  • Experience working on heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems

  • Familiar with HVAC and Building codes

  • Experience working with DDC and pneumatic controls

  • Acquire and maintain a valid driver¿s license within 3 months of hire date

  • Basic computer skills (i.e., email and punch clock)
