Maintenance Mechanic - Transportation (Bus) Fleet Operations
12-month position, 40 hrs./week, some overtime required
Experience in the general maintenance of school bus vehicles and equipment
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in commercial vehicle maintenance.
Must be able to perform light maintenance and preventative maintenance checks (i.e.: change bulbs, fill fluids, check fluids, LOF changes)
Schedule and Coordinate heavy maintenance and repairs of all district buses with vendor
Schedule/Coordinate 6-month inspections of all district school buses
Maintain current registration/tags on all district school buses
Respond to break downs
Maintain open communication with bus drivers regarding scheduled maintenance, defects, and repairs of equipment.
Communicate regularly with transportation supervisor regarding necessary repairs and services to district buses.
Other duties as assigned relating to maintenance and repairs of district school buses.
JOB GOAL: Incumbent is responsible for performing preventative, routine and emergency repairs on all maintenance, custodial and grounds keeping equipment. To perform/ coordinate all plumbing repairs within the schools. Assist with the maintenance and operation of boilers and HVAC equipment. To perform lead duties for snow removal and mail run within the district, and assist maintenance team with work orders as needed.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Included, but not limited to the following areas:
Continually perform inspections and preventative maintenance/repairs on small engine equipment (mowers, power tools, sprayers, lawn equipment, floor machines, etc.)
Respond to work orders issued by Supervisor in a timely fashion
Perform minor plumbing repairs and maintenance
Perform weekly rounds in the school buildings to ensure equipment is functioning properly, i.e. boilers, pumps, motors, fans, HVAC, small equipment, filters, etc.
Check heating and HVAC systems for each school and ensure temperature settings are correct
Coordinate water treatment preventative maintenance
Coordinate district wide boiler inspections
Perform district wide mail run when school is not in session.
Willingness to attend pertinent workshops and training sessions
Operate all exterior operations maintenance equipment including loaders, skid steers, tractors, dump trucks, mowers, trimmers, and other power tools
Coordinate and participate in snow removal
Willingness to respond to emergency calls in reasonable amount of time
