Job Description:

Performs mechanical and electrical repair of all equipment associated with operations.

Troubleshoots, installs machinery, machinery parts, pipes, structural steel, etc.

Maintains correct spare parts inventory by ordering parts from suppliers.

Maintains positive attitude toward maximizing plant's success.

Receives and carries out directions accurately and efficiently.

Operates in compliance with all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations.

Complies with all corporate/plant policies and procedures.

Demonstrates commitment to Responsible Care in everyday activities.

Interfaces with CMMS work orders and preventive maintenance tasks.

Participates in plant-wide HSE, quality and productivity initiatives.

Voluntary participation on the Safety Committee.

Participates in HSE activities (i.e. Toolbox meetings, BBS audits, accident investigations, Hazard ID's).

Performs other duties as directed.

Job Requirements

Education: Completion of a 2-year approved industrial maintenance training program or an AS in Industrial Technology. Must pass the Mechanical Aptitude Test with minimum of 75 percentile of national average.

Ten years of maintenance experience required in an industrial setting.

Reporting to the Director of Engineerinng at our research facility in Rahway, NJ, position will be responsible for : Responsible for directing activities relating to the maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, instrumentation and/or utilities areas of the Rahway Site in support of operations and research. Charged with development and execution of strategy to provide world class maintenance support to Rahway research site clients and facilities through various capabilities; e.g. integrated facilities management partnerships, Merck maintenance staff, subcontracting, etc. Efforts are intended to focus on maintenance excellence and reliability efforts and ultimately in developing a prioritized strategy to shape the mechanical team in support of Rahway Site current operations and future growth. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Overseeing staff managing routine and preventive maintenance of facilities as noted. * Ensuring compliance with all Merck safety and GxP standards (along with relevant regulatory bodies) required to carry out maintenance work. * Supervision of professional staff including training and development, motivation and work assignments. * Administers Company policies and Union Contracts. * Ensures that all staff members are adequately trained and practice safe operating procedures. * Support culture change toward safety goal of Target Zero for reduction of maintenance staff injuries, as well as ongoing reinforcement of Safe by Choice principles and behaviors. * Implementation and support of various maintenance excellence and continuous improvement projects; including world class maintenance metrics, various reliability projects, etc. * Supports change management efforts for implementation of various labor strategies/programs and support of site growth/expansion. * Responsible for managing departmental budget within forecasts and plan. * Application of relevant Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and Key Performance Indicators (KPl's) Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: * BS Science or Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical) and relevant industrial experience Required Experience and Skills: * Minimum 10 years in combined facilities engineering/management and project engineering role at a major research lab, technical facilities or manufacturing operation; * Minimum 5 years fully directing/managing maintenance services at a manufacturing or significant lab facility * Minimum 5 years strong leadership, interpersonal and change management skills within a dynamic management environment * Fluency with business software tools supporting project management, presentation/graphics tools, financial analysis tools is expected. * The ability to act independently and with creativity in problem solving is essential.
