Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

Provides general maintenance support for all building, fixtures and mechanisms at MHCC based on work orders and on-call emergencies. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, assists in highly skilled maintenance projects and set-up of events, and does related work as required.

Essential Duties

  • Performs pressure washing

  • Installs blackboards, white boards, bulletin boards, pictures, etc.

  • Maintains and repairs building, siding, painting, wood repairs, etc.

  • Maintains interior and exterior lighting.

  • Maintains internal and external campus signage such as directional and roadway, nameplates, and event banners.

  • Performs technical tasks in the set-up of special events.

Additional Duties

  • Performs any maintenance or repairs throughout the College district.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience/Training:

  • Minimum (1) year of experience performing facilities maintenance tasks

  • Current driver license, insurance and the ability to be insured by the college insurance carrier. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history

Additional education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Qualifications and/or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Mechanical ability and capable of operating facilities maintenance equipment and hand tools

  • Ability to frequently lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds at a time, without assistance, on a daily basis

  • Ability to work at heights of 85 feet in a lift and 40 feet on a ladder

  • Extensive mobility to perform the following for extended periods of time on a daily basis: stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift and carry objects, manipulate items overhead, to work or stand on uneven work areas, and to work in dimly lit or confined spaces

  • Ability to wear protective body gear including respirator, face mask, hardhat, body suit, ear protection, knee pads, safety glasses, and gloves

  • Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials such as fuels, epoxies, lacquers, paints, adhesives, asbestos and insulation

  • Ability to read, understand and apply information on detailed written instructions and labels and make application rate conversions

  • Knowledge and understanding of occupational safety precautions and regulations such as OSHA, ADA, and building and fire codes

  • Ability to communicate effectively and present and exchange technical or complex information

  • Ability to maintain basic record keeping to track expenditures and budget

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a crew and independently

  • Ability to contribute towards creating and maintaining a respectful work environment with the facilities staff, College staff, students and the public

Working Conditions and Important Information

Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to many potential hazards: extreme weather conditions, varying terrains, frequent noise extremes, heights up to 85 feet, dimly lit or confined spaces, and high vehicular traffic. The work is physically demanding requiring the ability on a daily basis to frequently lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds without assistance and extensive mobility for extended periods of time. Regularly exposed to potentially hazardous materials, chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and insects; required to use protective body gear; and works with a variety of equipment and power tools. Work requires the ability to work irregular hours, as requested to meet workload demands, and report to work during inclement weather conditions or any other conditions that might require a campus closure. Drives college-owned vehicles and heavy equipment.
