General Position Summary:
Contribute to the smooth and efficient distribution of Columbia Sportswear product by directing Maintenance Mechanics in completing daily workload. Responsible for maintenance of all equipment and facilities at the Distribution Center. Responsible for directing custodians. Responsible for initial and ongoing training of personnel.
Perform and direct routine and preventive maintenance for all warehouse and office equipment to ensure proper operating conditions. Equipment includes conveyors, racking, lighting, security, forklifts, material handling equipment, fire protection and plumbing systems.
Assist Supervisor with personnel needs, including attendance, employee performance and evaluation, hiring, termination, job changes and providing initial and ongoing training for maintenance mechanics.
Maintain logs of all preventive and breakdown maintenance performed on conveyors, forklifts and fire protection systems.
Delegate tasks assigned by Maintenance Supervisor/Manager to employees for completion. Ensure that all tasks are completed in a safe, timely and correct manner. Ensure that all department and Company policies are adhered to and report any violations to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Perform functions of the department as necessary. Use hand and power tools to make repairs or fabricate parts.
Frequently lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.
Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Occasionally lift/carry over 60 pounds.
Job involves recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Job involves a moderate level of detail and complexity for general duties and a high level of detail and complexity for conveyor system. Incumbent operates from some established policies and procedures and will occasionally have to take the initiative to create new ones. Duties are performed with only general directions under minimal supervision. Work is checked or verified by results. Decisions are made within general department and company guidelines. Errors in judgment can result in equipment downtime and lost productivity for the Distribution Center. This can adversely affect the company image and revenues by delaying the delivery of goods to the customers. Errors may also compromise the safety of the Distribution Center employees.
Job includes partial supervisory responsibility for maintenance personnel.
Contacts are normally made with others inside the organization. Contacts include members of other departments in the Distribution Center. External contacts may include vendors. Interactions tend to focus on information exchange, needs analysis, problem solving and scheduling. Contacts occasionally contain confidential/sensitive information with the incumbent initiating contacts on his/her own with 10% being by phone and the remainder via face-to-face interaction or by radio.
Specific Job Skills:
Possess good working knowledge of practices regarding hazard communication, chemical usage, material safety data sheets, lock out/tag out, emergency evacuation procedures and emergency generation procedures.
Possess intermediate computer skills including use of keyboard.
Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to use repair equipment.
Mental ability to conduct interpersonal interactions with company personnel.
Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, make decisions independently and with discretion, operate independently, and work effectively under pressure.
Possess good verbal communications skills.
Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, sit and stand for extended periods of time, and regularly lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
Ability to move freely through the distribution center.
Education and/or Experience:
High school education or equivalent and two to four years experience in warehouse maintenance/operations required. Formal classroom training in computerized conveyor controls, conveyor maintenance and previous supervisory experience preferred.
Exposure to general warehouse environment, related machinery, equipment and chemicals. Job may involve shift rotation. Job may require hours that often exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week to complete priority projects and incumbent may be required to be on-call. Job pressure exists in the balancing of a variety of demands. Exposure to a computer CRT.
