JOB SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the Manager, Plant Operations, performs a variety of duties in and around the Hospital complex. Performs repairs to and maintains machinery, systems and mechanical equipment.



    1. Performs hospital coverage duties by maintaining building equipment & systems.

  • 1.1 Maintains building climate by adjusting thermostats, heat, ventilation or air conditioning systems for the comfort of patients, visitors and staff.

    1. Completes and returns all work orders and equipment maintenance records according to departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements.

    1. Assesses environment for safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors or hospital employees and reports them to appropriate supervisors.



High school diploma, or preferably a graduate from a trade/vocational school or completion of other accredited mechanical electrical/electronics or plumbing instructional institution.


A minimum of 3 years serving an apprenticeship under a mechanical/electrical/plumbing or related trade or 5 to 10 years working in a similar institutional or manufacturing type facility/setting.


Preferably a P-2, S-2 or D-2 State of Ct license


A very strong working knowledge of HVAC or mechanical or electrical or plumbing or metalworking and/or welding experience.


Physical effort of lifting 50 lbs, ladder work up to 20 feet, kneeling and exterior work is required. Minor stress due to job requirements, responsibilities and of job shift duties.

Technical Competency: demonstrates technical competency in the performance of routine and complex testing, quality control, component selection and component preparation. * 1.1 Determines acceptability of samples and enters patient information correctly into the computer system.Competency is evaluated through direct observation, and record review. * 2. Recordkeeping, Documentation, Computer Skills: Provides for accurate documentation and reporting of results to ensure quality of patient care by demonstrating good computer and recordkeeping skills. * 2.1 Clearly, legibly, and accurately completes any hand written record. Qualifications EDUCATION Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent with MLS/ MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent or eligibility. EXPERIENCE One (1) to two (2) years' experience in an accredited Clinical Laboratory preferred. LICENSURE MLS/MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent or eligibility SPECIAL SKILLS Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and materials used in a Clinical Laboratory. Efficiency in word processing applications, spreadsheet design/utilization, and use web based resources. Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner with hospital staff. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
