Gulf Marine Repair in Tampa, FL is seeking to hire a Maintenance Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on floating equipment., lifting equipment, over-the-road equipment, and miscellaneous shipyard equipment. As a maintenance mechanic, you will be required to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components. This is a 1st shift position.

Our Maintenance Mechanic earns a competitive starting wage of $24.53/hr. - based on experience. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on shipyard equipment including tugs, barges, cranes, forklifts, rigging equipment, chain falls, pickup trucks, mobile cranes, automobiles, portable pumps, generators, cable reels, and power units, ventilator blowers, and lighting equipment. You comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

You also operate cranes, forklifts, air compressors, and trucks for repair purposes.

You operate under strict quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations and policies. You enjoy working in a shipyard environment and find great satisfaction in your work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have own tools

  • Must be able to overhaul pumps, engines and valves, and dial-in pump motors

  • Must be able to overhaul gearboxes on valve actuators and capstans

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • 2+ years of experience in a shipyard environment (preferred)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Flexible schedule to include working overtime and weekends when required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned. ● Detect and report faulty operation, defective material and equipment, and other unusual conditions to teammates and appropriate personnel. ● Collaborate with appropriate personnel to transmit and exchange information pertinent to work-related activities. ● Responsible for the operation of machines in compliance with Standard Operating Procedure. ● Must keep accurate operational records as directed. ● Inspects products to ensure compliance with quality standards. ● Read blueprints, manuals, and written procedural instructions. ● Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment. ● Work on pipe systems, which would involve repairing, modifying and installing systems. ● Perform all phases of welding including MIG, TIG, and Rod. ● Use cutting torch and bronze with a torch. ● Perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor with a dial indicator, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check for squareness, and belt tension. ● Install bearings and be able to perform all maintenance work required on bearings. ● Meets all physical demands of the position as more fully described below. ● Works scheduled shifts and overtime as assigned. ● Performs all work in a safe, efficient manner and follows all safety procedures. ● Maintains work area in neat and orderly condition. ● Must be available to cover on-call hours, including weekends and holidays. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Industrial manufacturing experience is strongly preferred MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret the metal rule.
