Position Description: We seek a dedicated individual who will be responsible for performing various mechanical, maintenance and repair work including the inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment used for accepting and processing waste and recyclables at the Transfer Station. The mechanic will be required to inspect, adjust, repair or modify the mechanics of various rolling stock and facility machinery, including but not limited to wheel loaders, dozers, yard tractors, trucks, cranes, chassis, walking floor trailers, intermodal containers, and compactors.
Responsibilities will include:
The inspection and maintenance work required for rotating machinery and equipment.
Inspect and adjust, as necessary, the mechanical alignment, balance, level and general condition of rotating equipment throughout the Transfer Station
Perform welding in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW
Perform preventative maintenance tasks
Actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment
Use various shop equipment in the performance of his/her assigned tasks
Read and interpret measuring tools, blueprints, P&IDs, graphs and technical manuals
Follow all health and safety rules and regulations mandated by law and per the policies and procedures
Keep work area clean, safe and orderly
Position Requirements:To be considered for this position the individual must have at least five (5) years' experience with heavy equipment and truck maintenance and repair and a High School/GED Diploma. Formal technical or apprenticeship training is desired. Must be flexible to work various shifts, including weekends. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and un-planned maintenance.
Must have thorough knowledge and experience with but not limited to: hydraulic systems, gas engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, drive trains and various hand tools
Must have basic typing and writing skills
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
Must have the knowledge and ability to prioritize job tasks
Must be able to work independently and with others
Must pursue personal development opportunities and is committed to staying current within field of work
Must support teamwork by participating, cooperating, and communicating with co-workers
Must hold a current drivers license
Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers by providing accurate, meaningful, courteous and timely responses to their questions or concerns
Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position
Variations to the work schedule need to receive Manager approval
Must travel to any location to do work in varying weather conditions, and be able to work outside or inside
May be required to handle and perform work safely and efficiently through stressful situations
Must be able to work outdoors at times
Must be comfortable working in noisy conditions
On a frequent basis, the Maintenance Mechanic must use a variety of hand tools throughout the day to perform duties
On a frequent basis, the Maintenance Mechanic the employee may be required to lift equipment/parts
On an occasional basis, Maintenance Mechanic is required to lift a tire/rim or part that may be in excess of 100 lbs.
On a frequent basis, the Maintenance Mechanic the employee may be required to Climb stairs
