Maintenance Mechanic

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to provide repairs of equipment and facilities during operations and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment and facilities to provide a safe environment for employees and guests. A Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping a facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen.

A Maintenance Technician will usually be required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a facility. Some other tasks a Maintenance Technician may be called upon to do include:

In a timely manner, perform emergency and general maintenance duties required to maintain and repair buildings, structures, machinery and equipment, involving some skill in HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, painting and/or the electrical or mechanical trades.

Arrange and coordinate for work requiring more specialized or skilled crafts to be completed by a contractor and follow-up to ensure it's completed satisfactorily.

Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment; understand and comply with workplace safety regulations.

Inspect and monitor, identify and respond promptly to signs of malfunction in machinery such as changes in performance, temperature fluctuations, sounds, smells or atypical energy usage; perform troubleshooting, as necessary.

Maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks and inventory of equipment and supplies.

Create and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for inspection, service and testing of equipment and facilities.

Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

Maintain required records of hours/materials expended for each job.

Attend special training classes and sessions to increase skill in various crafts.

Comply with OSHA safety and health rules.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade.

Willingness to learn new skills and methods.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) needed to convey information among staff members as well as customers.

Ability to prioritize assignments and projects in an efficient and timely manner based on urgency and importance.

Must be able to take initiative, proactive, organized and detail oriented.

Analyze situations, identify and troubleshoot problems and implement solutions.

Read and comprehend written materials and perform basic to intermediate mathematical computations.

Take direction, communicate and execute team and company objectives.

Knowledge of basic computer hardware (i.e. screen, mouse, keyboard, etc.)

Ability to act competently in emergencies

Note: Considerable knowledge is required at the experienced level and thorough knowledge is required at the advanced level.

Working Conditions

May be exposed to unpleasant and noxious fumes and odors

Will be subjected to extreme temperatures as well as extreme fluctuations in temperature, either very cold or very hot for extensive periods of time.

May be required to work in confined areas.

Additional Working Conditions

You may be required to work rotating shifts, to include: early in the morning, midday or late into the night and/or into the next day.

You may be required to work split shifts.

You may be required to work overtime, whether scheduled or not (i.e. more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek).

You may be required to work holidays and your birthday.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day in a fast-paced environment.

May be required to lift heavy objects up to 75 pounds (e.g. furniture,or equipment)

Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged periods of time.

Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.

Required to talk and hear.

Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Education

High School Degree or GED is required. No specific amount of formal education is required. However, completion of trade or vocational school is preferred.

Experience

Two years of experience in one or more of the building trades, or combination of training and experience equal to four years.

Working knowledge of two or more trades and mechanical aptitude as required.

Pay Range

$22.00-$24.00/hour

Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications

Valid motor vehicle operator's license

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and travel may be expected.
