None Job Shift: Day Job Category: Facilities Description Maintenance Mechanic FLSA Classification Full-time, nonexempt Reports to Supervisor for Maintenance & Special Projects Date July 24,2023 Job Description Summary/objective Maintenance mechanics provide general maintenance and repair services to buildings and fixtures.

They perform these tasks in shop or on-site, indoors, and out, using a wide variety of tools and equipment. They may be required to work additional hours or on weekends if necessary to meet service requirements. Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

Assist in construction, repair, preventative maintenance, assembly and installation of locks, plumbing fixtures, pumps, piping, fire alarms, fire safety systems, boilers, chemical mixing equipment, HVAC systems, chill water, and condensate systems. Assist in the completion of minor construction projects. Assist in procuring equipment and materials necessary for maintenance projects and minor construction.

Loads, delivers, unloads, and handles materials. Operates shop vehicles necessary to complete these tasks. Assists contractors in locating and gaining access to facilities and structures within them.

Competencies Experience in general maintenance work. Knowledge of materials and tools used in such work. General knowledge of changing, air filters, belts and oil in air compressors and HVAC equipment.

Supervisory responsibilities None Work environment Conditioned/ unconditioned spaces Mechanical rooms, Roof top work Confined spaces Physical demands Requires full range of body motion, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking. Must be able to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires standing for extended periods of time.

Requires ability to operate motorized equipment requiring manual dexterity. Must have good vision, with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to understand/follow basic safety precautions involved in the use of maintenance materials, the operation of the hand and power tools, and use of personal safety items.

Travel required None Required education and experience High school diploma or equivalent. 2 years' experience in the maintenance field. Ability to communicate with contractors. Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to read blue prints. Working as a team player. Must have a valid Commonwealth of Virginia vehicle operator's license.

Preferred education and experience Maintenance experience in a higher education setting. Experience with being on call periodically. Additional eligibility requirements None Work authorization/security clearance requirements Must be authorized to work in the United States.
