The Eastern Region (ER) of Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Maintenance Mechanic 3 on the Maintenance Team in Ritzville, WA. The Maintenance Mechanic 3 provides support for five (5) rest areas in the Eastern Region and performs routine and preventive building maintenance, grounds-keeping, and plumbing for each facility. This position will work with the supervisor for electrical issues within the structures and grounds, determine maintenance needs, and schedule services with outside vendors. The Maintenance Mechanic 3 will assist the supervisor in assignment of personnel and equipment; and be responsible for leading work crews in the repair, maintenance, and replacement of building systems and grounds-keeping.

The Maintenance Mechanic 3 will perform the following work:
Proficiently operate a variety of Class A, Class B, and Class C equipment safely and efficiently.
Conduct crew safety and training meetings to ensure safe work practices are in compliance with WSDOT policies and regulations.
Work with the Supervisor and Region Safety Office to address and resolve safety concerns.
Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to determine need for maintenance and repair.
Perform vegetation control, landscape maintenance, building repair, herbicide application, and clear roadway obstructions.
Repair and maintain drainage facilities and structures, roadway surfaces, roadside hardware, shoulders, and right-of-way.
Perform snow and ice removal and control; plowing and application of abrasives, solid chemicals, and liquid anti-icing chemicals to roadway surfaces and walkways (which includes operation of heavy equipment).
Follow traffic control plans and perform traffic control operations.
Perform janitorial services, replenish and maintain inventory of supplies for Rest Area, Mechanical Rooms, and RV Dump Stations.
Repair and certify backflow devices and conduct plumbing repair.
Work with and around hazardous materials (within WSDOT guidelines).
Sample and test various septic, affluent, and water systems.
Provide excellent customer service when responding to and assisting the traveling public with inquiries and complaints; and report unauthorized activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The Ideal candidate for this position shall have:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with N (cargo/tanker) endorsement without airbrakes restrictions and valid medical certificate.
Two (2) years of experience as a Maintenance Technician 2, Maintenance Specialist 2, OR one (1) year experience as a Maintenance Technician 3, or equivalent experience.
Experience in construction, landscaping, building and equipment maintenance and repair, or equivalent experience.
Working knowledge and experience to safely operate tools, machinery, and equipment associated with building, grounds, and roadway maintenance activities.
Effective and collaborative communication skills with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods with internal and external customers.
The capability to work any shift including evenings, weekends, and overnight stays; and respond to unscheduled call-outs to meet emergent needs and required job functions.
The ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds of various materials in inclement weather; while traversing uneven and steep terrain.
Herbicide applicators license (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
Backflow Certification (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
Washington State Flagging Certification (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).
A valid driver's license and ability to operate a state vehicle.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred/desired experience, skills, and certifications:
Experience performing journey-level and semi-skilled work in more than one trade or craft.
Experience performing construction, maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings, facilities, mechanical equipment, and machinery.
Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work.
Experience coordinating and communicating clear instructions to direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of trade mechanics and building maintenance technicians in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
