This Maintenance Mechanic position is an opportunity to work outdoors while making a difference maintaining some of Washingtons most beloved places. While you will start your day at St. Edward State Park, you may also work at Bridle Trails and Wallace Falls State Parks. Your primary responsibility will be to help maintain the equipment and facilities used daily by our staff and the public in these busy parks.

As a former Catholic seminary and grounds, St. Edward is rich in history as well as natural beauty and habitat, with hundreds of wooded acres and some of the last remaining undeveloped shoreline on Lake Washington. Bridle Trails State Park, with its' miles of trails has a long and rich history as an equestrian park but is used heavily today by equestrians, hikers and trail runners. Wallace Falls State Park hosts hiking trails with gorgeous views of waterfalls, streams and mountain lakes.

Most of your work will be done individually, but you will also be an important member of our larger area wide maintenance and operation team that works together on an array of projects throughout the year. Bring your maintenance skills and knowledge to bear assisting us to provide safe, well-maintained facilities that help connect people to their parks. Come join us!Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor or Area Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 independently performs a variety of responsibilities that include general maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties. This position will utilize a working knowledge of several related skills, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and machinist work. This position will also install, repair, inspect, maintain physical facilities (i.e., buildings, facilities, and grounds), machinery, and equipment within the Cascade Foothills Area.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform general work in maintenance, repair, remodel, and alteration in construction and maintenance of area facilities, ground, vehicles, and equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenance to park buildings and other park facilities.

  • Assist in fabrication and construction of equipment and materials to maintain vehicles and/or facilities.

  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of building drainage systems and rainwater drainage systems.

  • Minor grounds and facilities maintenance including mowing, trimming, cleaning, and upkeep.

  • Responsible for being aware of all safety requirements that affect the present task, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and orientating others working on tasks, or nearby of hazards and their required response.

  • Maintain and repair irrigation, plumbing and sewage systems and make minor electrical repairs.

  • Coordinates with management, other employees, volunteers and correctional crews during maintenance and repair projects.

  • Maintain health and safety standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.

AND

  • Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working State Parks or similar parks and recreation entity.

  • Entry level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.

  • Experience leading and/or supervising lower-level staff.

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Knowledge and experience working with various hand & power tools.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:

All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Maintenance Mechanic and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All Maintenance Mechanic 1s will receive 6 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after the first year), 1 jacket every 3 years, 1 baseball cap every year, 1 safety vest every 3 years, and a clothing stipend of $200 per year, and a $250 boot stipend every 2 years. Uniform stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
