Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Department: Operations

Reports to: Plant Manager

Summary: The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for managing all installation, repair, and upkeep of our company's facilities, as well as managing risk and improving equipment efficiency. Tasks include maintaining the industrial machinery, production machinery and building, planning repair activities, developing maintenance procedures, including preventative maintenance, performing engineering support, budget management, and assigning schedules. In addition to being a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the maintenance manager will collaborate frequently with other departments to complete projects and solve problems.

Essential Functions Include:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, monitoring, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Administers a robust preventive maintenance program that drives toward proactive vs. reactive work.

  • Maintaining a PM program for facilities equipment and infrastructure to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Must effectively manage a staff that works the 24/7 schedule and properly communicate and coordinate activities on the evening and weekend work schedule.

  • Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.

  • Manage the facilities maintenance activities across one or more facilities including but not limited to the following:

  • Oversees the physical maintenance and repair of equipment and systems at one or more sites.

  • Recommends measures to improve the performance, and quality of equipment.

  • Ensures all administrative duties are completed as required to ensure proper reporting.

  • Directs maintenance technician staff in safe dismantling, assembling, and installing of industrial machinery.

  • Leads troubleshooting efforts for industrial machinery and equipment.

  • Assists, as necessary, with the troubleshooting process, machinery, and repair of equipment to minimize downtime. Works to maintain uptime and efficiency through entire operation to include ammonia system and packaging operation.

  • Reads and interprets specifications, blueprints, and work orders, assigns duties appropriately and/or selects outside contract support as needed.

  • Monitors the use and inventories of facilities spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.

  • Identify and maintain critical spare parts.

  • Oversee equipment stock and place orders for new supplies when necessary.

  • Confers with other managers and contractors to coordinate activities across individual departments.

  • Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

  • Ensure that all fall protection procedures are strictly adhered to including but not limited to the use of harness, platform ladders, railing, lifts.

  • Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement and discipline related to Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.

  • Works in compliance and promotes a work environment which complies with GFGSI standards for a food processing facility. Follows and complies with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) product safety standards and Thrive Freeze Dry product defense standards.

  • Performs accident / incident investigations to the point of offering resolve. Maintains a safe work environment and follows OSHA guidelines and other government agency requirements, wherever applicable

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Include:

  • Minimum of five years of experience serving in progressive technical roles in a manufacturing environment, with at least three years in a leadership capacity. Food manufacturing a plus. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, operations or relevant technical field i.e. automation, robotics etc.

  • Experience with ammonia preferred.

  • A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others by establishing and carrying out metrics and Key Performance Indicators.

  • An ability to think ahead, plan and prepare action plans to achieve results.

  • An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations using proven methods of Lean, Kaizen, 5s, Six Sigma, etc. techniques.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and attention to detail.

  • Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude.

  • The possession of quality orientation and attention to detail, problem analysis and resolution.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English.

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistent and reliable attendance

  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity.

  • 20% or more sitting, 40% or more walking, and 40% or more standing.

  • The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a food manufacturing production environment.

  • Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift to 40 lbs. is required.
