We are seeking a supervisory Hands-On Maintenance Manager who will be responsible for maintenance operations of a manufacturing plant who also enjoys working closely with others in engineering, quality, and cleanliness! You will perform necessary work to keep machines, mechanical equipment, and structure of an establishment in repair.


Repair major and minor issues with equipment and buildings

Complete maintenance and repair work orders, in a timely fashion

Order and replace broken parts or equipment

Maintain a clean and a safe work space

Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and maintenance operations to meet needs of facility. Calculates labor and equipment requirements, resolves racking and tooling issues, reads and analyzes charts, work orders, or production schedules to determine maintenance needs.

Hands-on maintenance duties are required.

Trains new employees and demonstrates equipment operations or work procedures to new employees.

Responsible for ensuring that the maintenance needs of the plant are being met in a timely manner. If the maintenance technicians are unable to troubleshoot/repair maintenance issues then the manager is responsible to either troubleshoot and repair or arrange to have outside vendor resolve.

Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.

Monitors and patrols entire facility and enforces safety and environmental regulations.

Ensures preventative maintenance is completed; maintains maintenance records.

Requisitions materials, supplies, equipment parts, repair services; maintains accurate inventory and controls inventory flow. Utilizes electronic tracking system for all purchases to ensure budgetary compliance.

Supervisory responsibility for 2 -4 maintenance technicians.

Does require analytical, problem solving, technical, customer service, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Oral and written communication play an important role. Teamwork/balancing of responsibilities.


Education and/or Experience:

Associates degree in related field and 5-7 years related experience preferred or 7-10 years experience in lieu of degree required.

Previous experience in maintenance or other related fields

Familiarity with hand-held tools and equipment

It is one that requires attention to detail and accuracy, as well as a good mechanical aptitude. This position operates under time constraints with minimal supervision and requires a flexible schedule. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. * Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. * Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. * Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. * Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, schematics, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary. * Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. * Maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery. * Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs refrigeration equipment. * Understand PLC Control Principles and Applications with Field Devices * Understand and use basic Ladder Logic Programming * Determine Address Names for Input and Output Points * Use Address and Function Searches within the Program * Save Ladder Logic Ladders and Data Files from the PLC * Restore Ladder and Data Files to a Processor from a Programming Terminal * Troubleshoot Failed Input and Output Field Devices, Power Supplies, and Processors * Taking voltage and resistance readings with a multimeter * Repairing and replacing electrical components * Competent with programming of VFD's * Must be physically capable of performing work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures. * Proficient in testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Notify area leader when issues arise * Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations * Attend daily safety department meetings * Communicate with supervisors and other team members throughout their shift to ensure daily tasks are clear * Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions * Ability to adapt to a changing environment * Good mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills EDUCATION, SKILLS, & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Must have minimum of 5 years on-the-job experience in an industrial setting, or diploma in Industrial Maintenance Technology * Must be able to read blue prints * Must pass Auxiliary Equipment & Electrical Equipment Tests WORKING CONDITIONS: * Work in manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, and fumes * Fast-paced environment with moving objects, sharp edges, and congested working areas * Will be pushing, pulling, kneeling, reaching overhead, grasping, and lifting up to 50 pounds PERFORMANCE CRITERIA: * Must meet established quality and maintenance standards * Practice good housekeeping * Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) * Must meet established attendance policy and work overtime when required * Must perform other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor EOE/AA/Disabled/Veterans Blue Bird Corporation Fort Valley GA
