JOB SUMMARY: Direct the strategic and tactical activities of the cross-functional maintenance and engineering controls department in support of plant operations to ensure optimal technical and safe performance. This includes maintenance accountability for automation controls, receiving, processing, load outs, evaporation, drying, butter production, facilities, HVAC systems, spare parts inventory management, and maintenance cost control. This position focuses on managing the short- and long-term activities of the maintenance organization and systems to meet the manufacturing needs of the Eustis processing facility while staying within cost guidelines. A continuous improvement mindset, solid organizational skills, strong mechanical aptitude and methodical problem-solving technique are instrumental to being successful in this position.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Project Manager/Engineer to scope, design, and execute site capital improvements
  • Manage the tactical and strategic objectives of the Maintenance department to ensure site assets are operating with sufficient availability for the business
  • Responsible for the site maintenance costs and capital budget
  • Develop training requirements for Maintenance and Engineering staff and ensure employees receive necessary training
  • Develop, implement, and sustain an RCM/TPM program at the site
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to identify and execute opportunities for profit enhancement
  • Design and implement projects to improve productivity, yield, labor efficiency, and operating costs
  • Assist site teams to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance
  • Direct activities to ensure the maintenance and operation of the equipment, systems, and processes for the overall facility to meet compliance standards of all external regulatory agencies to include, OSHA, FDA, and all other applicable regulations.
  • Oversee the strategic development and implementation of trade skills development programs that promote a proactive and skilled maintenance team that delivers high services in support of production equipment and systems that meet the needs of plant operations.
  • Directly manage plant maintenance budget for spending control by area or piece of equipment and approve all PO’s created for plant maintenance.
  • Evaluation and determination of department priorities in response to work allocation to promote stronger overall plant performance and increase the mechanical reliability of the operation while reducing unplanned downtime.
  • Develop and implement training programs that build core competence within the maintenance and engineering department to promote accurate and timely evaluation and repair of mechanical, electrical, and controls processes.
  • Participate as a member of the plant leadership team in the development of plant strategies and cost-saving initiatives that streamline operations and deliver performance improvements and operational savings.
  • Champion initiatives designed to reinforce the core values of the business through technical implementation and changes to processes and systems at the plant.
  • Direct strategic and tactical maintenance & engineering project costs and department budgets and ensure adherence to established financial parameters. Prepare to update and communicate maintenance project costs as needed to Sr. management.
  • Manage, develop, coach, and train subordinates in the department to promote employee growth, positional expertise, skill development, and career progression.
  • Oversee the competent management of contractor proposals as they relate to vendor selection and projects supported by the preventative maintenance department
  • Proactively work in a safe manner in the context of performing the functions of your position
  • Oversee the implementation and adherence to Industrial safety practices (LOTO, Arc Flash, hazardous chemicals) and, programs and hold staff accountable for leading safety in the workplace.
  • Ensure the timely and effective resolution to safety work orders and ensure priority is given to safety when developing plans and projects
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs
  • Routine interaction on a production floor with loud noise, machinery and chemical exposures
  • Routine utilization of a PC with repetitive motion exposure in operating a key board and Mouse
  • Routine exposure to chemicals in storage or use such as cleaners, lubricants etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Four (4) year B.S. degree in Engineering required
  • 5+ years of experience in Industry, preferably in a process-heavy, food manufacturing facility with high-speed liquid packaging
  • Eight to ten years of management experience in positions within the Maintenance and Engineering function responsible for core facets responsible for delivering services in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Strong leadership skills to build a proactive team environment that is skilled and capable of responding to the current and future needs of the company.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and execute inventory and preventative maintenance plans, controls/automation with expertise in TPM, root cause analysis, breakdown elimination, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and establish processes and programs while working independently.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and a maintenance based software system
  • Proven ability to participate as a member of the plant leadership team and form sound working relationships with all members of the organization
