Position PurposeThe position performs routine manual labor tasks and assists in maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities * Performs a variety of routine janitorial tasks such as cleaning restrooms, cleaning and waxing floors, vacuuming vehicles and moving furniture. * Performs a variety of routine grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging and trimming lawns, watering and weeding flower beds, raking, pick and shovel work, and power washing. * Paints a variety of building surfaces. * Performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment as necessary; maintains equipment service records as required. * Facilitates removal and disposal of garbage, recyclables and bio-hazard and other waste. * Repairs basic plumbing, electrical fixtures and masonry. * Orders materials, supplies and equipment in accordance with HASCO Procurement Policy. * Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts and supplies as required. * Inspects grounds weekly and reports findings to Maintenance Manager. * Maintains required records and prepares reports as necessary. * Performs more complex duties under supervision or following demonstration of proficiency. * Other assigned duties related to the general functions described above.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDoes not supervise any staff.Qualifications and Competencies * Knowledge of the equipment, materials and tools associated with doing routine maintenance and janitorial work. * Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the building, electrical or mechanical trades. * Ability to read, understand and follow safety rules and regulations. * Ability to work independently. * Exercise sound professional judgment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property managers and HASCO staff. * Ability to use and care for a variety of hand and power tools skillfully and safely under a variety of work conditions.Education and/or ExperienceA typical way to obtain the qualifications and competencies is:High school diploma or GED. Technical training in construction and/or maintenance field preferred. Two years of experience operating a variety of light equipment and hand or power tools related to facility maintenance or construction work; or any equivalent combination of education, advanced training and previous work experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Communication SkillsAbility to deal courteously and tactfully with the general public. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people from a variety of cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds; individuals with disabilities hindering communication; and individuals lacking fluency in verbal or written English.Computer SkillsAbility to accurately complete data entry logs and clearly transmit information through email.Employee AttributesAll employees are expected to consistently demonstrate the following attributes:*

ROLE SUMMARY: The General Laborer, Fleet Operations is a field based position, responsible for safely and efficiently supporting crew members who operate and maintain the railroad maintenance machines in accordance to guidelines set forth by the FRA, our customers, and Loram Maintenance of Way, INC. (Loram). COMPENSATION: THIS POSITION STARTS AT $15.00 PER HOUR FOR NEW HIRES Time and a half is paid after 40 hours per week. Typical work hours are 12-14 hours per day and 70-75 hours per week. Hours may be longer or shorter depending on operational needs. Room for advancement: 90% of General Laborers who are employed with the company for 2 years receive a promotion in that time and 50% will have received at least 2 promotions. Employees are responsible for all personal expenses including, but not limited to, food, phone and laundry.
