Maintenance Electrician - Nassau Community College

Job Description:

The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Maintenance Electrician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures throughout the campus. Under direct supervision, the position requires use of judgment and skill, and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.

In addition, the Maintenance Electrician will:

• Make repairs to electrical motors, fire alarm systems, lights, power circuits, appliances, generators, and a variety of other electrical equipment.

• Troubleshoot, locate, and correct power failures and short circuits.

• Install open and concealed wiring and lighting fixtures.

• Make emergency repairs to elevators, generators, and other electrical apparatus.

• Perform a variety of preventive maintenance on a variety of electrical apparatus, appliances, and equipment.

• Make work time estimates, and keep simple records.

• Perform a variety of non-electrical maintenance and repair tasks, as required.

Requirements:

The Maintenance Electrician should have:

• Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the electrician's trade.

• Knowledge of the New York Board of Fire Underwriters Code and other relevant regulations regarding electrical installation.

• Skill in the care and use of electrician's tools and equipment.

• Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of electrical apparatus, appliances, and equipment.

• Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.

Minimum qualifications include completion of vocational school training and four (4) years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade OR six (6) years of satisfactory experience in the electrician's trade.

Additional Information:

The Maintenance Electrician position is a Grade 9, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $31,616 per year. After six (6) months, salary will increase to $33,682, then to $40,018 after one (1) year. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave.

Candidate must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
