ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The County of Riverside Transportation Departmenthas an opportunity for multiple Maintenance and Construction Worker (MCW) positions located in Murrieta, Corona and Riverside.
The incumbents in this position will support the department by performing a variety of duties such as repairing and installing culverts and road signs, patching asphalt roadways, and providing traffic control during road construction and maintenance. The MCW(s) will also be tasked with weed abatement, tree trimming and illegal dumping clean-up. Additionally, the incumbents will operate and maintain various types of road maintenance and construction equipment including dump trucks, water trucks and front loaders.
The most competitive candidates will have considerable experience in the construction and maintenance of roadways or other similar public works projects and be familiar with operating and maintaining two- and three-axle equipment.
The selected candidates for the Maintenance and Construction Worker positions will work a 4/10 schedule which may include occasional weekends. A Commercial Class A orCommercial ClassB Driver License is required for these positions. A copy of your driving record printed within the last 30 days must be attached to your application.
Meet the Team!
TheTransportation Departmentis responsible for planning, designing, funding, building, operating and maintaining all roads, bridges, and transportation facilities within the unincorporated County territory.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform recycling work at refuse disposal sites: load/unload waste tires at illegal dump sites at community cleanups; collect, package and ship electronic waste for recycling; collect, handle and store household antifreeze, batteries, motor oil and paints from landfill customers.
Spray, cut and clear brush/weeds.
Use a variety of hand and power tools, mowers and other light motorized equipment.
Perform traffic direction, set up and maintain traffic signs at refuse disposal sites.
Perform graffiti abatement in unincorporated areas of Riverside County.
Construct, maintain and repair roads by patching holes with asphalt and/orconcrete.
Construct and maintain fencing, flood control channel walls, levees and culverts.
Clear fencing, roads, flood control channel walls, levees, culverts and other facilities of storm debris and damage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
One year of performing construction work or field maintenance work (e.g., roads, flood control facilities, refuse sites, recycling facilities, public works projects or closely related work) which required operation of light trucks and related construction equipment.
Other Requirements
Valid California Driver License - Class A or B
The majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and Summer temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit).
Department of Transportation
For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.
Knowledge Of
The operation and maintenance of trucks and light motorized equipment; equipment and traffic safety procedures; the tools and materials commonly used in field maintenance, recycling, or construction work.
Ability To
Safely operate trucks and light motorized equipment; perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance or construction tasks; operate power saws, chippers, and a variety of hand tools; follow oral and written instructions.
