Description of Work
This position will serve as Maintenance/Construction Project Manager II (Regional Engineer) for the Western Region of the North Carolina.
The position will be based in the Regional Maintenance Office located in Lenoir, NC (Caldwell County) with the option of a home office.
This position is part of the Central Engineering division of the NC Department of Public Safety. This Maintenance/Construction Project Manager II will provide Project Management and Design services for construction projects located primarily in Western North Carolina, but may possibly have responsibilities in other areas of the state. Travel to projects sites in the Western Region (and possibly other areas of the state) will be required.

This position leads, plans and works closely with other DPS facility services teams and other external or contract employees supporting the facilities ongoing needs for maintenance, repair & renovation and new construction. In addition, this position collaborates with the other in house disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Electronics, Energy Management, Civil, Project Management) to craft plans that serve our customers' needs.
This Maintenance/Construction Project Manager II will serve the Western Region of North Carolina and will be working closely with the Regional Maintenance Office in Lenoir, NC. This position will be based in Lenoir NC with the ability to base from home and have responsibilities in Western North Carolina.
Travel to projects sites in the Western Region will be required. This position will provide Project Management and coordination for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering work. In addition, the successful candidate will provide engineering design services, with the assistance of design engineering professionals in specific fields as needed.
Project Management, Construction Planning, Inspections and Contract Administration Services are all key functions for this position. Strong emphasis placed on the position's involvement in Engineering Design and Project Management which includes budget management and project scheduling. Interfaces with and provides engineering expertise for Regional and Unit maintenance as well as Central Engineering staff. This position is assigned a state-owned vehicle and receives per diem and reimbursement for all work related travel and expenses.
The employee in this postion is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
The recruitment range for this position is $60,530.00 - $95,929.00

The salary grade for this position is GN16. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.
If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Professional Engineer Licensure in NC or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date, as a condition of employment. If licensed outside of NC, confirmed reciprocity from the NC Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors is required prior to hire date.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to estimate costs.
Five years of Engineering Design Experience in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering in Institutional/Commercial/Industrial facilities with Project Management experience including experience preparing and administering contracts.
Prior experience with NC State Construction (State Construction Office) Procedures and Guidelines and experience in managing Correctional/Institutional construction projects.
Knowledge of NC Building Codes and construction methods.
Experience with AutoCAD and the ability to produce construction documents.
Ability to resolve discrepancies between design and actual field conditions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor' s degree in Facilities or Construction Management or related Engineering field from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of related experience in construction project management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification - May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
