Job Output

Under the general direction of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for:

  • Effective management and overall performance of the maintenance activities for the Tectum facility (Including manufacturing, shipping, warehouse, site building and grounds).

  • Minimization of downtime in the facility in order to keep the plant running at optimal performance levels. Utilizing preventative maintenance measures, planning and organization of project work, effective scheduling and prioritization of activities to best meet business objectives.

  • On 2nd shift (evening), manage a 4 person Maintenance Crew as well as a production cleanup crew of 6-7 associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing direction and leadership to all maintenance personnel and cleanup crew personnel. Including support for maintenance on all shifts.

  • Ensure the safety of the department as well as machines to ensure the safety of our plant personnel.

  • Drive execution of preventative maintenance activities which can include revisions to current PM's, developing new PM's and qualifying PM data.

  • Leads down-day planning process; manages work order planning and scheduling processes. Estimates the labor, parts, materials, tools and equipment required to perform the work specified.

  • Effective reporting and communication of executed work (PM's, routine and emergency work orders, contractors).

  • Drive continuous improvement in the areas of equipment and maintenance processes.

  • Development of the skills and abilities of the maintenance staff.

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding established budgets for maintenance.

  • Support capital project improvement work.

  • Coordinate activities of contractors and manage activities including job performance and compliance with plant safety practice.

Measures of Effectiveness:

  • Safety performance; Lost time injuries, OSHA recordables, Outside care cases, Preventable measures

  • Customer satisfaction

  • Direct maintenance costs

  • % of machine downtime vs uptime

  • Compliance with safety and environmental regulations

  • Capital Projects: Scope, schedule and budget.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager

Provides leadership and guidance to maintenance employees.

Works closely with Production Supervisors, Plant Engineers and Process Improvement team members.

Closely collaborates with Operations, Supply Chain, Safety, Finance, Product Development, and HR Department

Education and/or Experience

At least 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.

Understanding of safe work practices such as LOTO; hot work permits; confined space entry and PPE.

Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.

Mechanical and Electrical knowledge that would also include the ability to read blueprints and technical instructions or data.

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Two year technical degree from an accredited college or technical school.

Other Qualifications

Demonstrated moderate to advanced skills in SAP or related maintenance management system.

Demonstrated skills in working with Microsoft products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Demonstrated experience using Lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement

Our Tectum manufacturing plant, one of eleven Armstrong plants in North America, employs many people across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product.
