Maintenance Technicians perform a variety of activities to maintain plant equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition. These activities include scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency / break down repairs.

Maintenance technicians report to the Maintenance Supervisor. Pay depending on skill level.

  • Primary maintenance technician duties / responsibilities include:

  • Following all safety rules and practices.

  • Ensure product safety

1.2 -performing preventative maintenance activities such as lubricating, measuring wear, measuring positions, repositioning components, and observing operations, vibrations, and noise levels;

1.3 -performing emergency / break down maintenance as necessary to support plant operations;

1.4 - referencing equipment manuals and other technical literature; knowledge of detailed mechanical equipment drawings and ability to use detailed blueprints in carrying out troubleshooting and equipment repairs;

1.5 -contacting and working with vendors and subcontractors to achieve desired results;

1.6 -accurately using measurement and test equipment; knowledge of types of pitch, diameter of gears (spur, bevel, right angle, herringbone and rack and pinion); ability to install and check for backlash and wear and maintain gears; knowledge of all tools and proficient with scales, tape measures, micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, torque wrenches and pullers

1.7 -performing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam system, and other repairs and installations as needed; read and interpret pneumatic and hydraulic schematics and diagrams; ability to design, build and install simple pneumatic and hydraulic systems

1.8 -safely operating the boiler, and maintaining adequate operation steam pressure (greater than or equal to 180 PSI);

1.9 -knowledge of mechanical drives and their function and troubleshooting

1.10 -knowledge of rigging (coma longs, port-a-power, blocking, chain falls, slings, chokers, hydraulic jack, machine dollies, booms and spreader bars;

1.11 -proficient in all types of welding (torch, stick, mig and tig)

1.12 -Identify types of bearing and class of fits (roller, ball, tapered and cylindrical and spherical); identify proper sizing of belts, sheaves, sprockets and chains.

1.13 -maintaining clean and organized work areas, and cleaning up work areas as part of completing assigned tasks;

1.14 -accurately and completely preparing and maintain maintenance records and other paperwork;

1.15 -utilize maintenance computer system to enter notifications, time, research parts, manuals, drawings, etc.

1.15 -trouble-shooting and solving problems;

1.16 -maintaining teamwork with other associates;

1.17 -keeping supervision informed of problems and/or unusual situations;

2.0 Qualifications for maintenance technicians include the ability to perform the duties / responsibilities of the job with or without accommodation; the ability to accurately use and read a variety of measuring devices; well-rounded electrical, mechanical, and machine shop skills and experience; the ability to learn, and the ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and work effectively as a member of a team.

2.1 The maintenance supervisor evaluates maintenance technician qualifications.

  • This is an interview position and will require taking the maintenance skills test prior to interviewing.

Responsibilities Primary Responsibility: Provide assistance and guidance to fellow maintenance technicians in relation to all aspects of repairs, assignments, maintenance processes. Lead and coordinate the work of other maintenance technicians. Provide maintenance, MHE, and refrigeration support as necessary to ensure operational objectives are met. Assist supervisor/manager with daily operational needs. Will direct and oversee the work of contractors. Essential Functions: * Provides oversight to maintenance associates as necessary to ensure execution of department objectives/assignments, while performing duties associated with the maintenance technician role• Performs operation, repair and adjustment of refrigeration system. Monitors system performance and determine when system is not operating correctly and recommend corrective actions• Engages in troubleshooting of MHE, Building, and Refrigeration equipment systems to driving root cause analysis and implement proactive solutions• Replaces components within the refrigeration's system, with safe LOTO procedures and in accordance with PSM program; Able to perform basic pump out/evacuate refrigerant as necessary for valve replacement and/or repair• Analyzes equipment performance and develop solutions to improve reliability and availability• Reviews inspection and repair reports and observe progress of work on major overhauls to evaluate efficiency and work quality• Inspects completed work for compliance to blueprints, specifications, and safety standards• Leads and maintains Maintenance Excellence efforts across site to drive continuous improvement• Ensures accurate preventive maintenance records within the CMMS System• Keeps work area and tools 6S'd (well maintained, clean, organized, etc.), and performs housekeeping duties as required• Performs related work and other job assignments as required• Leads the capability development of facility technicians to increase functional understanding of equipment, troubleshooting skills, and technical competence• Ensures effective communication across all shifts of maintenance regarding execution of departmental objectives and assignments• Ensures compliance with all company, local, state, & federal regulations / policies Qualifications Qualifications & Experience: * High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required• 7 years' industrial maintenance experience• Completion of RETA Operator course preferred; In lieu of RETA course - successful completion of industry recognized Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration training (Stellar, Frick, GCAP/Lanier or employer comparable training program), equivalent in scope will be considered• CARO and CIRO certification preferred• Skilled in all disciplines of maintenance (industrial refrigeration, material handling equipment, dock door/leveler, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance)• Required to successfully complete assigned Industrial Refrigeration and maintenance courses• Required to train in HAZMAT, obtain and maintain the certification• Certified to test sprinkler systems (where applicable) or able to gain certification within 90 days from hire date• High level of knowledge with OSHA PSM program required• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP Preferred)• Requires competent and demonstrable computer skills (MS Office Suite -Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Fully competent in mechanical knowledge and ability• Strong communication and interpersonal skills• Mathematical and documentation skills necessary• Ability to oversee and inspect work performed by all levels of maintenance associates• Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions• Proficient use of testing equipment• Must be able to work flexible shifts if required, including on call• Share knowledge, train and develop less experienced technicians Physical Requirements: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
